77 cb 550 intake boots..i need a part #
« on: May 10, 2008, 08:16:15 AM »
i have searched evry honda service link around...i cant find a part # for the carb intake boots.
anybody know where to find the #'s

these are what i have found.they list the boots from the engine , but not the ones to the air box.
in the airbox pics ..they show the airbox as #12....but they dont show the boots as being individual  (do you have to buy the whole air box assembly?

As far as I know, they are only available with the air cleaner chamber. I've never been able to find them separately   ???

With the knowledge possessed by the members of this forum i dont see why someone cant reproduce the boots somehow.
If you had an original boot as a model i dont see why it couldnt be reproduced by a competant backyard mechanic.
I guess it all depends ond demand.

Demand is the problem as they are unique to the 77/78 550 and, compared to others, there were few of those made---thats why the exhausts are discontinued but the earlier ones are still made

Sorry, I try and tell it like it is---dont see the point in getting hopes up       BUT HERES A THOUGHT.

I know they are supposed to be different but you can get just the rubbers for the earlier ones (£18 + shipping from dave silver), would it be worth finding an earlier airbox with shot rubbers and seeing if they can be easily, or even not so easily but possibly, modified

Part number for complete box is 17310-404-670, now i know for certain that the carb gaskets are the same as 750Auto (393 middle number) so is it possible they might fit? trouble is the 750 Auto is probably the only bike LESS common that the 550 K3.

Also try some european people as in europe there was a 500 K3, identical to 550 except for bores and pistons and jets

I have both a 77 550 and a 77 750a. The air cleaner boots are very different. The 750A uses an air box very similar to the 750F. Sorry, you'l have to keep looking.

I know they look a lot different but is the bore at the carb the same? If so is there any hope of, probably majour, modifications?

Just trying to think sideways on this one

Yep, the carb side is the same diameter on both sets of carbs, the difference is on the a/c side. I'm sure that you could make them work, but I don't know that the 750a boots are going to be any easier to find.
