Fork Seal Help Please
« on: May 14, 2008, 07:18:25 PM »
I have the forks all apart on my 1975 550k. i ordered some seals from ebay and don't think they are the right ones. they're very hard and the back outer part is smooth with no groove. the inner part of the lower fork leg has a grove after trying to get the freakin thing in for so long I figured I'd ask before I get anymore p/o. ???

The outer most edge of the seal should be smooth and the inner surface should have what may look like a groove or lip something that resembles a wiper.  If you are having to whack the crap out of them to fit into your fork leg then more than likely you have the wrong ones, lay the new ones on top of your old ones and compare.

The old one came out in a million pieces maybe the  metal piece is part of the original seal fused on the forkleg  ? I'm going to take a pic.

In the meantime maybe consider ordering some from your Honda dealer.  I have had great luck with the OEM and installing them.  Good luck with your project.

That is part of the old seal and needs to be removed.
