This build is fantastic. You did a great job of marrying the new with the old. It looks right. Classic. I've seen way too many try to make a modern sport bike with a CB750 and it just looks horrible. A+

Holy god dam dude! This is absa-freakin-lutely the most badass cafe i've ever seen. I just found your thread and started reading through it and I can honestly say that your work is a major inspiration to me. Funny story, a while back I saw your vid of the bike idling in your garage before it was painted up and that was pretty much wat convinced me to go out and start my own build. So i found a cb 550 on craigs list and i've been in the process of a complete rebuild. It wasn't till just now that i realized this was the same bike that motivated me, crazy! Thanks for the kind words guys.
To answer a few questions, the rear sets are custom machined levers with gsxr woodcraft pegs. I didn't use a modern sport bike mount though, I just welded some threaded bungs to the frame so I could attach the pegs directly.

Front tire is on correct, that's how they design the tread...it does look backwards.

if not, is there room to modify a sportster speedo drive to fit on either side?

I currently run only a tach as I havent found a speedo that I really liked yet. My plan is to just make a magnetic pickup speedo some day, but to tell you the truth I havent really needed to do it yet. If you wanted to run a mechanical speedo, you can find one from a Kawasaki 1200 i think it was. It has a 25mm diameter axle, same as the gsxr. I will look it up again as to what bike it was, its just slipping the mind.

EDIT: a mechanical speedo from a Kawasaki zrx should work.

Hi Squirley, Check these out, tacho with all the idiot lights and a digital speedo built in.......a little pricey but very cool. They also have mirrors with the speedo reading in the mirror...

Thanks retro, those are some very cool tachs indeed...may have to start saving funds

I was asked to take better pics and host them somewhere else for better resolution, so here ya go guys.

Also, I have been asked to post a couple pics of the front hub spacing between fork legs, so that will also be posted.

Hi Squirley, how she handle mate ? {550} I have a similar conversion happening and so does Industrial Cafe and i was wondering, these modern front ends lead to less trail, how does this effect your bike mate?

The bike handles very much to my liking. Now after saying that... It turns in quicker which I like, and this is partly due to the decrease from the forks and an increease of rear height from thshock positioning. Like I said I like a quick handling bike, and to reap all the possible benefits of th swap I wish I would have gone with a smaller profile tire or an 18" wheel in the front.
I still have to mess around with the forks to find the correct settings for me but this will take time.
Do you have any questions in particular that you want me to cover if I can?
