Well the leaves are falling so I guess I gotta admit it's Autumn (Fall for you Americans) and the good riding days will become fewer, I'm one of those guys who expects Summer to last all year and doesn't let go of his nieve assertions until it's snowing somewhere. ;D
Guess it is almost time to park "Blondie" up and tear her motor out so I can do that annoying head gasket leak and see if she needs a new cam chain tensioner.
Ah maybe next month huh? :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

let me attack this with all the things my writing prof told me never to do, under penalty of death and failure.

It was a dark and stormy night.  Hush, a generally mild-mannered Kiwi, was in the shop with a wicked gleam in his eye.  When at long last he finished his work of madness, an 8mm spanner hit the floor.
ting!cling!

"I'VE DONE IT!!!" he cackled, raising Blondie's severed head from its bottom end and thrusting it into the air, showered by droplets of spent oil.  A flash of lightning revealed the glistening naked base gasket.  Pistons, naked in the air hung blackly thick with carbon.  A single tear ran down his cheek, the product of the moment, the trauma of his 650's decapitation.  A tiny baggie of dak fell from its hiding place behind the rego plate, as if the bike had defecated itself when the last of life left its chassis.

Hush eyed the head from beneath, mirror-like cylinder walls reflecting keenly in the dim light.

"That'll fix ya!" he chuckled, "That'll teach you to leak..." The head went to a clear spot on the counter, and Blondie remained bolt-upright on her mainstand, disemboweled and tankless.

I think it would be better if it started like this: It was a dark dark night so black you couldn't see a black cat in a coal mine, Hush skinned up an eight paper super joint from the dope he discovered behind his number plate. ;D
Obviously Police issue grass supplied to patrol Officers to ward off the boredom of waiting for speeding motorists. ;)
After a few good drags he decided that the head job could wait as being stoned always made him paranoid around machinery.
He drifted off to find some Bourbon RTD's from the fridge which he would consume while sitting fully clothed in the spa pool! :D

Captain's log Stardate 31.05.2010, well after a great Summer of riding and pretty much trouble free mechanics Blondie has finally run a fault.
I dug all the bikes out of the garage for start-ups (been raining for a week here) just to to run the motors, so that's Jaffa's Scooter, her GSX400 my son's CBR400RR and Blondie.
All fired right up even the scooter which hasn't been started for months, all except Blondie that is.
CLICK...CLICK....CLICK.....#$%* #$%* #$%*!!!! >:(
Ah well battery is flat, dig it out (literally, have you seen the rigmarole to get a 79 side entry battery out?) and the positive lead is coated a pretty blue colour and welded to the battery post.
Got the nut spinning and finally cracked the seal between nut/bolt/battery pole, I'm a bit pissed as I coated this whole area liberally with Dielectric grease (as per chief witch Kit's instructions).
Then I can't find the water level?  Nah nuder zip nil, no water.....????
This is the first time Blondie has refused to start during the whole of Summer so I'm a bit perplexed by all this, she charges like a wounded bull, maybe she is over charging? ???

then yes, your R/R is toastified if it's letting your voltage go SO high that it's cooking the everlovin' out of your battery.

Drat, didn't you replace yours Kit?
Where did you source it from?
Sometimes cheaper to import from the states than buy around here even if you can find the part you want.

have you left it on the charger, or does the battery lose fluid just riding ?

It must be when riding Larry, I only ever bench charge it if it has been left for a long period, and when I say NO water in it I mean absolutely NO water in it!
I've topped it up again and recharged it, best guess is the reg/rect is allowing over charging/boiling.

mabey you just need a semi truck battery to hold all that juice while running the lights and siren!

:)

Interested to see the fix on this one though.

I'm thinking of adding a top-up tank that gravity feeds to the battery like a radiator overflow. ;D
