Honda Interceptor problem #2

Well, after fixing my problems, I'm running into yet another one....

This one is going to be fun.... I got everything hooked up and set, and I go to restart her (gas tight and vacuum tight) and she'll kick over and idle for exactly
2 seconds......and then she dies.

She'll keep doing this with the choke fully closed and what's weird is, if I try to throttle her, she dies much faster than just leaving the throttle at neutral.

Pump is working cause I can hear it, and well, I can only reach the 2 otter carbs to see if there getting gas, because of the drain screws.

But I do smell gas in all 4 carbs.

I will be getting up tomorrow morning to install the gas tank instead of my shops testing gas tank. The tank I'm using is only half of a gallon, where as the VF's gas tank is like over 3 gallons.

I'm thinking the down force of the gas might be playing a huge part....????

What is amount of gas the pump is suppose to pump per second??

And what could be the problem other than what I'm mentioned??

She's not gettin' fuel mate, That's all I can think of.

Full choke and throttles at idle is the most vacuum the engine can create using the least amount of fuel. If it's starved for gas, this set up will actually suck enough fuel into the carbs to keep the engine running at an idle, but the moment the throttles open a bit, the vacuum drops, the carbs suck dry and it quits.

Better luck with the right tank tomarrow  8)

Pump should deliver more fuel than engine can use when flat out. (probably around 600~1200cc/min@ 3.5~7 psi)
Do an amp draw on it, shouldn't be more than 2~2.5Amps flowing (there isn't a test for this in manual but I find it gives a better indication of whats happening before you start dismantling pump)
 If it isn't a blocked filter (low discharge) and has high amps, (probably partially seized, worn bearings, etc) your better off looking for a used pump than trying to clean it up (although if its shot, you have nothing to loose by trying)

Jump just the 2 main wires coming off of the pump? Is this right??

Well, I just got out of the garage. I was working on her and some how I was able to get her to start and idle, with full choke that is.

I can't get her off choke and she still wants to die as soon as I apply throttle.

Does this indicate a problem with the diaphragms on each carb, or a problem with the jets (slow and main)????

I'm thinking the jets, but it could be the air passages....but the carbs from up top look very clean....

I'm heading out to the shop for carb bowl gaskets as these have a tendency to break when you take the bowls off.

I just want to make sure I get every little thing cleaned that could be causing a problem as these boots for the carbs are a pain in the butt..

And your probably right mattcb350f!!! She's just not getting enough fuel.

Are you connecting black and green wires at pump? ( black live, green ground)
doesn't matter how clean the tops of carbs look, you have to get inside them.
Loosen all the clips (8) and pry off the front or rear pair first, they don't come straight up like it says in book, and you have a pretty good idea how I feel about the rest of it  ;D

Hey Loops!  Did you get it sorted out?  If not I'll scan the page on testing the VFR750F pump and send it to you.
