only good for a bike that would be in shows I'd say.  Even the shipping cost is pretty ridiculous.

That's more than my bike's worth (well at the moment anyway).
Very pretty covers but I'd expect to pay like $100 the pair!

Just buy some junker ones for 50 bucks and some new emblems for 50 dollars. Paint the sidecovers and slap those new emblems on there, they will look just as good at a 1/8th of the cost. It's all about getting thrifty   8)

NOS can demand high prices, IMO it's really unpractical. Good luck on your sidecover search :)

I look at it this way - If they're going on a concours resto bike that could pull $8K+ then I suppose it's a worthy investment. The guy who bought them probably knows what he's doing. Sane people just don't drop $850 on a set of covers for a $2500 driver. If you're restoring a Hemi Cuda, you'll drop 1K on an NOS Pistol Grip Shift Knob - its the same situo.

It's not Vic World. Vic is SandCast__ something or other. I'm not sure who Sagione is but he's smoked me on a couple or 3 NOS pieces that I bid high on.  The last one he sniped my ass on with 2 seconds left when I bid at 5 seconds. He's goood! This guy is buying all sorts of NOS stuff and he's paying top dollar. CB750, CBX, Kaw900, etc. He has some very deep pockets. Click on his purchases and you'll see what I mean. Wish he'd go away. I don't need that many more pieces.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I tried to get these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300227282685&rd=1
Yeah they "might" fit other years...  The 82 nighthawk is the missing link between the rest of the nighthawks and the cb650 custom.  All of that plastic is limited to that year bike as the frame is a tad different on both the older and newer models.

I have a pair that I'm putting on eBay very soon.  They're pretty good shape but both sides are missing one tab.  I'm just going to make my own out of sheet metal since it will accent the look of the bike anyway.  I'll tell you what, if they don't sell first time around, I'll send them to you for only the shipping cost.   I'm getting rid of all of the plastic.  My old tank badges just paid for a new rear fender and taillight assembly.  I LOVE eBay.

I agree about the pricing.  If you're going to do a full restoration, then maybe the price is worth it.  My bike cost me $75.  I'm putting a lot into it but it's not a restoration, just a good looking fun cummuter bike for the mountains in California.  I like nice cosmetics, but I'll only go so far to get parts for a bike I'm NOT going to show.  I'd even go for broken covers if I could find them, and I'd patch them myself.  I intend to paint them anyway.  But no way am I going to pay $80 US for a left side cover.  I've watched the prices on E-Bay and if I knew back when, what I know now, I'd have cornered the market on covers and be retiring about now.

So, Still looking for covers that would fit a '77-'78 CB750F Super Sport.  Else I think I need to get out a piece of wood and a saber saw and cut my own... IF I can figure out how to attach it once I get it cut.

Grrrrrrr.  Beats having all those wires and connectors hanging out on the left side.

I must say, I LOVE e-bay.  I can't even begin to list the things I've bought lately that put my beauty back on the road after 26 years sitting.  But the real help came from THIS board.  Yikes, what a lot of expert advice and source material from electrical diagrams to full shop manuals.  Still the rant seems more general, more about the frigging cost of side covers.  Even the after market covers cost an arm and a leg.... see the other threads.

My friend here that used to race bikes tells me to forget the cover and just use (gulp!!) duct tape.  He's GOT to be kidding... but seriously... I don't think he is.  I 'might' take a piece of plastic, cut it, paint it, and tape it in place as a stopgap.  I dunno though, I'm thinking of making a foam mold and making a fiberglass custom cover.  I'm getting that desperate.

No matter where you go, there you are.

soon you'll see auctions for sets of side covers with a brief summary of the condition of the bike that "comes with them".

I notice LPM has a nice supply of fabricated badges too.

LPM has the best aftermarket side covers that I have seen. IMO they are worth the 65 bucks.

Yes, I second that. I've had a couple sets from them now and I'll buy more when needed.

Those look nicer than the $200 pair I bought from Show-and-Go, Down Under. The Show-and-Go ones are real heavy-duty, though, about 1/4" thick, hand-laid fiberglass, are going to take some hand work, filler, and carving to "sharpen up" the recessed emblem area before I'm willing to put them on my soon-to-be-restoed K2. I like their thickness, though! They probably weigh about 4 lbs. altogether.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

I guess you haven't priced out the cost of fiberglass and the resin.

2 oz Glass cloth -  $14 a yard plus tax. or, 2 oz glass mat  $3.85 yard, but you should add a gel coat for a smooth finish- $15.35/pint.
Polyester laminating resin - $17 a quart. or, (General Purpose Epoxy resin kit $22.65/pint.)
If you want to mold the cover mounting pins, add casting resin - $24/qt.  Or, you could use latex rubber mold builder - $13/pt
Don't forget the Paintable Mold Release: Stoner Rocket Release 12 oz. - $9.25
Add tax
http://www.tapplastics.com/index.php?

On the plus side once you have the mold, you can make maybe 4 or 5 more of these covers and sell them to people like you for $10-$20 each.  But, you'll have to add packing materials and boxes.  Also, the quality better be perfect or you'll get returns and refund costs.

I'm thinking you'll end up with some old refrigerator plastic and duct tape, though.   Or, decide those LPM cover aren't so expensive after all.

By the way, I don't really care what you paid for the bike, it's value is the amount you would sell it for.  Will you take $75?    ;D

I think its awesome that sidecovers a mere 3 years older than mine are going for $840 on ebay. It shows the maturation of the vintage japanese motorcycles as legitimate collectible artifacts.

I also think its awesome I paid $20 for my broken ones that are currently held together by several ounces of epoxy and prayer.  I think I'm winning in the Fun Per Dollar category, as my bike goes.
