CB650 top speed
« on: June 10, 2008, 08:15:41 PM »
I read the 81 , 82 CB650 will do 114mph. Anyone do this? Seems like my 84 550 did 115 easy with a lot of tach left on it.

Ive never had my 82 CB650SC over 85 yet. It tachs 5k at 70 so 114 might be redline. I love how peppy it is at 70mph@5k feels strong for an old bike.

84 CB550 is new design with 4 valves per cyl and DOHC.
I was at Honda UK for a course when it was first tested and did 128mph. (at least the British ones did)
CB650 is derivative of SOHC 500~550, in custom its only good for about 105~107.

With my '79 cb650 stock motor, cb750 carbs, pods, 17 tooth front gear, 39 tooth rear gear, I hit the 130mark on my speedo once.
Mind you thats with me lying on the tank pretty much.
scared the h*ll outta me!!!
Was at redline pretty much.

With my '81cb650c with stock gearing and motor, i dunno.
the speedo tops at 80.
I'm guessing just under a ton, but i had 2 grand to go on the tach.

I have guessed mine to be 115 with stock gearing on the 81 custom.
Have time slips of 97 in the 1/4 mile with diet and slight gear change.
18 grand and 18 miles dont make you a biker

I dunno,my speeding ticket  this morning at 105MPH was when my speedo was reading 110.
Can't wait to see how much they are going to make me pay... :(

So I dunno.
It could be way off the faster I go.

And at 105(speedo read 110) my tach was around 8500.
(seeing as my rev limiter on the dyna2000 is set at 8600 at the moment)

She'll never see the road if ya keep donating to the tax man. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Just noticed today my big white Police speedo only goes to 80 mph!
How the heck did they ever catch anyone on these things?
I was riding when this bike was born in 1979 and my Suzuki T350 would pull 110 mph on it's off day!
My Suzuki Titan 500 did 115!
Damn shame my local cop had an XS650 and he could certainly keep up on that.
Heck even the Norton Commando's that were being phased out were more competitive.
80 mph, we gotta do better than that!!!! ;D
Maybe a BMW?
Or even a CB550.

I once got my '83 CB650SC up to 195-200kph (~120-125 mph). The bike didn't want to accelerate any further, but I wasn't running at the red-line. I'm happy that I didn't encounter any red and blue lights. I was riding with 6 bikes far from anyplace I knew, and they all took off. Luckily it was a nice freshly paved downhill slope that we could see a few miles down the highway. It still felt like driving through a parking lot at highway speeds. I was quite annoyed with them afterward.
