what all do you do to freshen up the switch housings?  i've tried to get mine in better shape, but no such luck!!

(Did you order a book already? I don't want to sound facetious with this next comment...). Go to page V-24. The whole process is there!  :D

It is just cool how some of you guys have been in this scene since these bikes were available new of the showroom floor.

Sure would be nice, If I could go down to the dealer today and buy a new K1! ;D (in green of course!), and put a nice nickel plated Kerker 4-1, and maybe a supercharger on it! ;D

I mentioned in another thread, took possession of your book Thu AM. Simply amazing. The sheer volume of printed material is shocking. And to know (assume) its virtually all from personal experience.

And noticed they are offering Cryo treatment on their cranks and rods. No price that I could see.

Pretty sick today, real bad cold. Still hope to get out in the shop for Sunday Therapy but maybe not, we'll see.

Got my order from Yamiya Thursday PM. Lft side switchgear w/o signal cancel, single fuse style fuse box, 2 SS 10mm Caliper Bolts, to be used as Motormounts. Those guys are freakin amazing. I ordered Monday PM, and got the stuff Thursday! From Japan!

That's probably my 5th order from them, every one delivered without error in 3 days. They make working on, restoring, an old bike almost embarrassingly easy. If you have the extra coin, they'll send you stuff it take forever to find on eBay, etc.

Actually, many of the obscure items they have are very reasonably priced, though some are not.

Hey Ron..

Don't know if you read my posts about our (wife & I) visiting Yamiya last summer..but although small and limited with their English proficiency....they seemed "on-the-ball" about things.  Was glad to hear that they follow through so promptly..etc.  Actually the two people who deal with all of their American/English business..are women..one's the wife of owner..the other a relative of some sort..I gathered.

I think that some of the exorbitantly priced stuff is due to their not really knowing what the market value is on some of the stuff (also..asking $25 to $40 k for a rebuilt..not completely restored.. K-2 thru K-4..seemed a bit of a stretch to  me).  A little "constructive criticism" on their pricing..wouldn't hurt occasionally..I believe.  They wanted $250.00 to rebuild/service a tachometer OR speedometer (not completely rebuilding..just fixing/servicing what needed to be done).

I suggested that it was a bit pricy..for most of us old SOHC 4 fans.  I believe they've reduced their prices since then..but not sure by how much.

Anyway..I've offered to others on these forums..will to you also..that if you ever have a communication problem with them..my wife (certified Japanese/English translator) has offered to help clarify things a little..if need be.

Okay..looking forward to actually seeing Phaedrus III (?) on the road in the foreseeable future.

Al: No I missed that thread, or at least don't remember it. THat would be cool to actually go there. I've seen the inside of the shop via the web, seems small and likely well organized and efficient. Bikes downstairs and shop upstairs?  I've actually had some email corresponence with them, questions about this part or that, and received understandable responses each time though with a very thick email accent.   :D

The instruments are a concern for me as well. I want K1 gauges for Phaedrus II as they have the recessed lens face and the idiot lights in the gauge. THe only model that did so. If I can't get some good used ones rebuilt I may be looking for "new" ones.

I hope you're mistaken about Phaedrus III. I'm working on P II right now. Do you know something I don't.   ;D

Go get a bottle of zinc pills and take 3 per day. Every cold I've had gets terminated in 2 days by that stuff. (Heck, if it's good in motor oil, it MUST be good in motorcyclists!). Plus, I take some Jim Beam at bedtime for it, too. I don't know if it cures the cold, but it makes me not care so much.  ;D

I think that fact is what will make this book different from many others. I've had this CB750 sickness ever since my first contact with them, and still remain fascinated by the bike. Terrible disease! But, through the years and all the Honda people I met, I really came to believe their old slogan, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". If I asked a Rep something about the 750 in the day, they would really try to find out, even if it was a "dumb question" thing. I miss that...  :)

They were from 450 (1mm thick vs. 750's 2mm) and the ones going on the otherside has to be machined round inside as the axle doesn't have slots on that side.

Thanks. I doubt if I'll get into the shim thing on this build. I have a low mileage transmission that's been undercut.

Maybe the next one. I don't know what the long term side effects might be from the change. Maybe more wear in an unintended place.

I've got another project in the pipeline. It would be good to get this trick sorted out and documented.

HM: I've heard about the zinc from other people to. That might be the "Zi--" in ZiCam? which claims to shorten duration of colds. Double doses of Vit C and the basic stuff, fluids, rest, Mucinex. Local liquor store has 99 proof SChnapps real cheap, goes good in the orange juice.

I'm about over mine now, doozy. Just at the busy time at work too, had to save my energy for that.

So hope to put in some evening time this week, or double time this weekend. Feel really stalled out. But nothing 5 to 10 hours can't fix.  I'm glad I bot new switchgear, really loks good, but I'm continually busting the budget. Get that mounted with the quickthrottle, see if the VFR MC interferes with the instruments, etc.

I'm figuring I get the front end all done. THen I'll drop it lock stock and barrel out of the steering head and haul it to the machine shop, wheel and all. They can have at it for a fork brace/fender mount. Maybe an oil gauge mount. I used to have one that shone up thru the hole in the top bridge, cute and out of way.  They've gotta cut the fender down to fit, too.  Can't take the rolling frame as my trailers not up to it. But the front end ought to fit in the mini van.

That'll clean the workbench off and I can get going on the engine.

No updates this week, I'm sick in bed with monster cold. Getting it together enough for work, but sleep the rest of the time. Double dosing with zinc, Vit C, mucinex, robotussin, etc. but it's a doozy.

I've done some work with the C2-C5 pair, which has always been the leakest link in these gearboxes. Usually, new (superior quality) bearings will stop the need for other shims, at least in my experience.

I don't mind the hijack, not much original material otherwise.  I see that Yamiya is now offering the offending gear and shift fork, for $500+!!  I think (been a while since I've been to their site.) They see the need and I assume they have priced for the demand.  I think if one has a low mileage box, then cryo and undercut is the way to go. Mid mileage box maybe the same and the shims.  Not everyone has or will have the problem, but several here have.  and it happened to me once, or should I say I did it to myself from aggressive shifting.   ;D

Joksa: can you elaborate a little on this mod? I haven't heard of this one.

I haven't done it nor have any better info than what I have read.
But the idea I got is to use half width shims (thrust washers) on both sides of C-2, C-3 and C-1 gears. The ones on the other side of C-2 and C-3 has to be round on the inside as the countershaft grooves are not there.
I'll have to check the article (in a Finnish magazine called Drivin' & Ridin') again what it said about shims on mainshaft.

I've done some work with the C2-C5 pair, which has always been the leakest link in these gearboxes. Usually, new (superior quality) bearings will stop the need for other shims, at least in my experience.

I don't mind the hijack, not much original material otherwise.  I see that Yamiya is now offering the offending gear and shift fork, for $500+!!  I think (been a while since I've been to their site.) They see the need and I assume they have priced for the demand.  I think if one has a low mileage box, then cryo and undercut is the way to go. Mid mileage box maybe the same and the shims.  Not everyone has or will have the problem, but several here have.  and it happened to me once, or should I say I did it to myself from aggressive shifting.   ;D
Mine has 130k+ miles on it, and I want to try the cryo/shim/backcut approach to see how it pans out. I have to round up some cash, first...
I have some of the jump-out-of-2nd isse on real hot days, but believe it to be bearing related as they are original, still. It also has neutral between 2-3 after warmup: same reason (I'll bet all you other guys are jealous, I have 2 neutrals!  ;D )
