Now back to work: The original ground cable had seen better days. So I ordered a new one. Center digits were MB9, a replacement for 300. I thought it's be a direct fit. Well it gave me fits. Wasn't quite clocked righthad some interfering tabs, etc. So I looked up MB9, turns out to be for a 1984 GL1200. Close but no cigars. But that's the OEM replacement now.  After working and grinding we got it to fit and moved on.

Cut down some bolts for motor mounts;
Replaced the cables with the newer units from MotionPro, I think we've got the length right finally,
Did some other things and bam shop time was over.  :(

How about some chrome cable ties?  ;)

Wow! I didn’t realize that chrome cable ties even existed.

Probably ok for use on a Harley since it’s an upgrade from rusty bailing wire.  ;D

You can see the suppliers website on the packaging, if you really have to have them. They came free with my purchase of their bullet turn signals a while back.

Great to be in the company of the epic Samauto. Big difference of course is that bike is running.

But someday... I think most of us will still be alive to enjoy it!   ;)

Cold day in the shop, but heater and visqueen made it tolerable and we push on. Finally got the resized cables from motionpro installed. Here's the Difference in clutch cables.

Black stock. Short was too short, medium just right. I can use the short one on the next cafe racer project, or if i ever feel the need to remove the risers on Phaedrus. Anyway the clutch works beautifully, and All's' well lock to lock.
Finshed look from cockpit

Like that SS braid.

Installed the A throttle cable, into the quick throttle. Took a bit to get the routing right. The VMs take the cable on the right side of the backbone, up against the backbone as a matter of fact. Vs the stockers on the left. A cross on top of the coils seems to work. Overall the throttle is way too heavy. Maybe the quickthrottle is rubbing, or I'm getting weak. But it works and its on to the next thing. Gotta stay focused and get this thing started. i can work out the bugs later.
Got an oil pressure gauge from many years ago. A chrome SW (stewart Warner) but I don't like the mounting. Ugly and the gauge rubs on the adapter plug. Ordered this unit from Joker, in black. I'll want a gauge to start it.
http://www.jokermachine.com/item2004.asp?ItemID=671&CategoryID=&Placeholder=0
Got their Cap latch while I'm at it.
http://www.jokermachine.com/item2004.asp?ItemID=795&CategoryID=&Placeholder=0
Also in black.

Onwards...

That Joker latch looks very nice. 8)

As for the thottle (& other cables), did you lube them before install?  I found this made a difference when I installed my MP cables.  Also your stiff throttle could be routing related.  That twist through the frame could be an issue.  I had to try a couple of different pathways before I got everything just right.

DD: I was just looking for shorter cables, but when I saw that MotionPro offered these, I had to have them.

TT: No I didn't want to gum them up till i was sure the length was OK. Now that i know its right, I'll remove it. I actually bot lube and a luber from MotionPro. Put it on the shelf and forgot all about it.

Rest assured I'll be trying everything. It won't be deemed finished till the controls operate properly. But it can start and run as is.

OH !....sorry. I guess I'm dreaming kind of big.
A brief side trip: My shop: Part of my mid-life crisis, along with my FJR. Built in 03, 14' x 26':  R24 in the ceiling, R9 in the cinder block walls, 60amp service, rollup doors, etc:

It was originally the 2 car garage on the left. Removed the right slope roof and replaced it to cover the new third bay shop. Builder did a pretty good job.

Thanks for showing us your shop!
It looks very nice and comfortable in the winter too.

Maybe it needs one small window.

One thing to keep in mind with photos is todays cameras create very large files.  If you save these in Photobucket, and then post them, it will use up your allowed band width very quickly.  I resize mine before saving to PB.  Generally this just means changing the largest dimension - e.g. 4000 pixels down to 2000.
Tintop,
How do you "resize" them? do you do it before downloading them from your camera or afterwards?...somehow within your computer ? I have to look a bit more at my instruction book for my Nikon coolpix L20 and see if I can do that...I have it set for photos to the highest 10 mgpx, is that a good way? I would hope if I can resize in the camera first, maybe I can upload them to the forum directly ??

Hey guys, thanks for assisting me on this "pain"; I think once I "get it".....it will be a bit easier...hopefully.

I can change the resolution in the camera, but prefer to use the highest setting to get the most detail.  I down load them to a file, and then use a program called Photofile that lets me resize & save.  Generally all I do is cut the largest size (pixel height or width) in 1/2 (e.g. from 4000 down to 2000).  The problem isn't storing large photos on Photobucket, its the bandwidth thats used when you 'attach' them to something like a build thread.

Bikes looking great MCR.  Have to agree though that the pipe looks low.  Anyway it can be tucked in tighter to the wheel, that would increase cornering clearence somewhat.

If you had Photoshop ( real version) you could use the save for WEB feature and it reduces the file size to about 40K Whatever pixel size you want.
But 640 by 480 is best because it will fit on most computer screens.
So you can save one version for print at 600 DPI and save one version for the WEB@72 DPI which is what the computer monitor screen displays at.

Save as a JPG because it gets rid of non image data and significantly reduces the file size with no reduction in the quality.

Hey MC. I love the shop and how much room you have to be organized. I think that's 3/4 of the battle with any project.
Also, did your shop come with the garage gnome in the first picture? :o

Thanks Lucky. A window would have been nice. If you follow the sidewalk on the right, it terminates at a 4 ft rollup door, that can be opened in good weather, or partially. With an opening in the original garage which has windows, gets quite a cross flow.

Good Eyes Ecosee............Looks like a CB77 to me but where is the motor?
Yes Ecosse and OS: 'tis a 68 CB77, as noted in my signature - "Ticker". Pull up a chair for a story.

I bot it from an elderly lady who owned a general store in the sticks of Kentucky, in 1996. ALL ORIGINAL! Her husband had the bike from new. He put about 4500 miles on it. He died in 1974, the last year the bike was plated. She parked it in the General Store and there it sat for 22 years.

Me and 3 other guys were riding the KY ridges and stopped at the store for a beverage. Berlin, KY, pronounced with the accent on the Ber.

I learned how to ride on my cousins 64 CB77 so i have a soft spot for these. After a brief negotiation, settling on $500, I left her a deposit, and finished our ride. The next day I hitched up the trailer and made the journey back to pick up the bike.

It took a bit to get it back on the road. The engine started right up. The brakes had seized from corrosion from condensation. Requiring a complete disassembly, clean and lube, and reassy. A few other tweaks and it was on the road.

Along with a rare set of Hondaline soft luggage, and my wife on her mighty ZL600, we took several overnights, adding up to about 2000 miles. 60 to 80 mpg!

But the engine was acting up, wouldn't pull full throttle and was real noisy. Cam chain adjuster was at full extension and still noisy. So I pulled it off and found the wheel was seized, and rather than turning it just became a slider and wore itself down to the axle. So I had to park it, the adjuster was NA from Honda. I loved riding that bike. Amazed a lot of people with its speed.

I found a guy Les Barker in Wash state who works on these. He put a new roller from a Kawasaki on my adjuster. Fine bit of machine work. The engine has been out of the frame since 2000, though it is back together. The chassis is white, which I've found was only available in the KY, IN, IL area. OCICBW. Anyway the paint has no primer and hence is pitted out pretty bad. All of the removable parts have been chromed/ re-chromed or finished. I'll want to get the chassis repainted with original Honda white and reinstall the engine. I got a set of repro stainless steel mufflers from some place in Oz. Stockers are slightly rusted.

So this project is first on the list after Phaedrus. It will be fun.   :D

I have a spare engine, I thought I'd let Les build it into a Yosh type 350 and swap it back and forth.

Thanks! No that bike went un-named though it was known locally by friends as "the Black Bike". It spent most of its straight line life with the rear wheel spinning. Bot new as a K1, it lived a fast and furious life. Within 6 months it was totalled (crazy kid) rebuilt, rode to FL, rebuilt again into the "black bike" with the Tracy body work, 836 kit, ported head, K0 cam, pipe, etc. Then by July 1972, it was stolen, never to be seen again.  :'(

here's Phaedrus I, a K2 bot in 74, totalled and rebuilt twice before this version, loaded for one of its many overnights: probably 1994 or so:

And in Las Vegas New Mexico on its maiden voyage in 1980:

It had about 20 miles on the rebuild before i headed out west. 8,000 miles and 3 weeks later...
Thanks for asking. Great memories.  ;D
