anyone know anything about these bikes? i know along with cb750's, KZ900/1000 are hot sellers. i get cb parts from a guy about 40 miles down the road and he recently scored one of these bikes. i know very little about the regular KZ's but i've heard these Z1R's are pretty rare...?

You need to check these sites. Vintage Kawasaki nuts for sure. (FWIW, I'm "inline4" on those sites as well).

Those sites are to Kawasaki as this one is to sohc4 Hondas.

yeah, real boxy lookin. needless to say it was a complete running bike that he parted out on ebay. said it brough him good money but i just hate seeing a good bike be parted out.

figured these were a bit hard to come by. saw in a mag that they can bring some decent $$$.

yeah, i just didn't want to join a KZ forum just to ask this question.

Very cool bikes.   It never sold as well as the other hot rods of this era (CBX, GS1000, XS11), but they're very rare now and quite unusual looking.  Worth some serious money properly restored, although never as much as CBX's.  The engines are pretty much standard Z-motor, but body parts and the like are getting to be unobtanium due to the low production numbers and because Kawasaki has always been ruthless about dropping parts support for older models.
