I never saw it, but I recall when it came out a few years ago.  I thought it was funny to name the movie Torque, because motorcycle engines are nearly all hp (rpm) and not much torque.

Way back when maybe, but all modern motorcycles have equal dose of both. My FJR1300 is a torque monster, my 650HawkGT reputation is torque over hp. Even a hayabusa king of horsepower puts out tons. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/44126.html  as do virtually all sportbikes, in a balanced way. The HP thing is high profile, but the torque is there to back it up.

But even way back when I think any such reputation is not deserved, except for maybe the old 2 stroke street bikes. But towards the end of their run they were making decent torque.

Did you have some models in mind?

I'm thinking more like motorcycle engines compared to drag racing, blown BBC or big deisels like over the road tractor trailer engines or large boats.  My own rule apply in my head only, but for me- If the movie is called torque I would expect it to be about something with lots of it, like 1000 lbs/ft to start.

It's my mission in life to get a copy of Silver Dream Racer. 'Why' do you ask? Well ignoring the obvious, I have no life, it's seems so elusive. And that bugs me. I have a feeling it's just a cheesy flick but if anyone has a review, do tell.

I know I can get it on Amazon but was hoping to rent in case it does reek.

Just watched She-Devils on Wheels...  The Maneaters, an all-female biker gang, gets into a fight with a group of car guys.  They race, they fight, yadda yadda yadda, and it culminates with a guy getting his head cut off by a wire stretched across the road.  The song alone is worth the rental price.
One day, I will put up a signature.

nobody has mentioned Knight Riders yet

In George Romero's KNIGHTRIDERS, Sir William (Ed Harris) and his followers exist in a Camelot-like utopian state of their own devise, separate from mainstream society. Travelling from town to town and putting on a medieval circus and renaissance fair, they hold jousting matches on motorcycles, complete with full suits of armor. Within their isolated society, however, there are problems--Morgan (make-up effects artist Tom Savini) wants badly to usurp William's King Arthur-like position as the leader of the troupe. William's struggle to lead his followers on an honorable path also comes up against a serious obstacle when the media come calling and attempt to turn the troupe into celebrities, thus compromising all that they believe in. Following his apocalyptic zombie classic, DAWN OF THE DEAD, Romero took a reprieve from the horror game with this singular character study, which just happens to have a good deal of motorcycle stuntwork thrown in for good measure. Written by Romero himself, this lengthy--but original--film is notable for its worthwhile sentiments on staying true to one's self, as well as a fine early perfomance by Harris.

Credits
Cast: Brother Blue, Christine Forrest, Ed Harris, Patricia Tallman, Tom Savini, Warner Shook

I remember a British film I saw as a kid (early 70s) about a group of bikers.
The scenario was "if you killed yourself" on purpose with the knowledge that you would come back from the dead, that you would and could become part of their biker club.

Lots of babes,bikes and gore.

Anyone know the movie?

An annoying devil-worshipping British biker gang calling themselves "The Living Dead" decide to take their moniker to heart when their leader commits suicide and is brought back from the dead in an occult ritual, thanks to a Satanic pact. Realizing that becoming zombies could be even more fun than the usual day-to-day hell-raising, most of the gang follow suit -- throwing themselves off buildings, into traffic, walls, etc. Without the annoyance of death to contend with, the Living Dead become even more obnoxious than usual, leading to a pat solution from their leader's peeved mother (Beryl Reid). Outrageously dated and featuring loads of unintentional laughs, this is still the finest movie ever made about British zombie biker gangs and features the stately Reid turning into a giant frog. ~ Cavett Binion, All Movie Guide

Gotta respect a guy who can track down an obscure flick that well. My hat's off to ya.

Someone a while back (in this thread?) wondered about some old Brit movie; if I can find the post maybe could you use your magic powers to track that down?

"Ok Ecosse I have a challenge for you since you have all these cool motorcycle movies....I remember seeing this short movie somewhere...it was set in London (in the 60`s?) and it involved a guy on a Norton cafe racer, speeding through the streets of London and through long winding white-tiled tunnels and at one point he is racing this hot 60`s chick (wearing a neck scarf) who is driving an open-top sports car....they race each other through the tunnels and streets.....and its all in black in white.....very very cool movie.

Do you or does anyone know where I can see this again!? Its one of my reoccurring dreams.....such a cool movie!

cheers
Andy"

My vote also goes to "STONE" released in 1974 (only in Australia). The precursor to "Mad Max" that got me into motorcycles in the first place. If you like bikes, chicks, bikes, murder and BIKES, then this could be the movie for you.

And besides "Terry from Australia" likes it so it's gotta be good.

Synopsis: The Grave Diggers motorbike gang are the toughest of the tough. They live life to the fullest; riding hard, fighting hard, drinking hard and loving hard. A gang member witnesses a political shooting but the assassin spies the insignia on the back of his leather jacket. Not knowing which member of the gang it was, the assassin decides to eliminate all of the members of The Grave Diggers. Stone, an undercover cop attempts to infiltrate the gang to discover who is killing off the bikers. Not happy that a “pig” is amongst them, the gang and Stone form an uneasy alliance as they try to save each other.

Excellent piece and great clip, thanks!

I had read about the McQueen/Métisse before but now I want one. That old stuntman friend of SQ just passed not long ago.

I knew Bud Ekins as the stuntman for the Then Came Bronson movie and series. I may have known about the Great Escape connection at one time, but fully forgot.

here's a bio and credits. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bud_Ekins

I read that too about the bike stunt in Bullit. This piece in Motorcycle Classics is the first I know of him by name.

Sorry the quality sucks. My copier is lucky it's not in a thousand pieces right now. >:(
