Not my favorite move. I just robbed the wheels off a CB650 and put them on a 74 CB550. I gained air shocks, but I really don't care much for Comstars. I got tired of them quick. I had to use the 650 trees, but it was a perfect fit. Should be the same for you, I believe. Mine were 16/19 though. A 17 inch wheel is a hassle to begin with.

The 79 650s used a 17 comstar.  Then in 80 up they went with 17 wire (standard) or 16 comstar(custom).

Why would you want to go tubless? Do you really ride your bike that hard that you need tubeless tires? There are actually more tire choices for tubed tires than for tubless of the size that a comstar takes.

What is it about your tubed tires that you find to be a hassle? You have more choices, better rubber, and maybe the only downside is that not every bike shop will have it in stock and it will have to be orded. When I got tores for the 79 cb750F with comstars I basically had only one choice for rubber from avon and one choice from bridgestone (I could have gone cheng shin, but then I also could have shat out a long turd and wrapped it around my rim, the bike had brand new chengshins on it and they were greasy). For my K5 each manufacturer has at least three tire choices.

If you want to do it to get rear disc brakes in addition to tubless tires I can then understand, but it isn't worth the hassle on a k4 and the reduced tire diameter in the rear will decrease the handling of your bike (unless you decrease the front wheel diameter as well).

Thanks I needed that this morning :D
Sounds like I'll be better off with what I got. I bought it with both tires flat and just wondered while me and my more knowlegable friend were at it if switching rims would be beneficial.
Thanks for the info everyone.

I rode my DOHC 750F with those cheng shins for 50 miles. I have never been squirrley on a set of conti's, metzlers, or avons, but those cheng shins would get "funny" in even the most basic of turns. The P.O. who put them on had about 300 miles on them so they were well and broken in, but on the DOHC cb750 I felt they were a liability. The 1979 DOHC has the same rims on th 77-78 supersports and it was tough finding good tires for both my 78 750F and 79 750f. I eventually went with avons, although I would have preferred metzlers.

As for the comstar swap, most people don't like the look of the comstar rims and there really isn't an advantage to having tubless tires when so many more tubed tires are available. The only positive side to the swap is that you get to use the better brakes and can get dual disc on the front. If you can score a complete 77-78 supersport rear end (swing arm, rim, brakes) and a complete 77-78 supersport front end (forks, rim, brakes) the brakes make the swap worth it. Since the comstars won't work with your existing brakes using the later brakes would have been part of the swap anyway. The only thing not a bolt on with the rear disc is the mount for the M/C which you will have to fab and will need to be welded to your frame. Other than that it is pretty straight forward, it is probably not going to be cheap so if you can get a 77-78 supersport rolling parts bike and strip it of its parts that is your best bet.

Personally I ride the crap out of my K5 and it is bone stock, my only complant is the factory honda front brake sucks.
