Keihin carb rebuild question #2-bowl #'s out of order?
« on: July 25, 2008, 11:01:50 AM »
I noticed the manufacturer went to the trouble of marking 1,2, and 3/4 on two on the bottoms of the carb bowls. They are out of order as of now (3/4-1-2-3/4). Should I switch them back around?

Probably

There must be 40 (or more variations) of Keihin carbs on the various SOHC4s.

I just finished rebuilding a set of those carbs, and if the bowls have been moved like that. someone must have switched carb 2 and 3. The NR2 bowl shouldn't fit carb 3 because of the acc. pump.

Quite right, the #2 carb bowl is unique because of the accel pump.
The drain screws face outward, so it is unwise to swap #1 with either #3 or #4.  I don't see an operational issue with swapping #3 & #4.  It just grates on my sense of "right".

However, if not replacing the bowl gaskets, I would put them back where removed.

The #2 bowl is unique, because of the accel pump as stated.  The #1 bowl has the drain screw facing the left side of the bike, and the 3/4 bowls have the screw facing the right side.  (assuming they are on  the correct carbs  ;D ;D)
