Looks like it will work great on short studs.

I would rather grab the long ones right above the threads at the case..

I think they use rollers in tapered holes rather like the starter clutch,

I have known them indent the threads at top of stud but never anything unrepairable

I actually ordered a set of the metric ones, and they do not work.  No real bite at the time, and all it managed to do was smooth out the threads.

That is very unfortunate.....I'd send them back and request a refund or credit. I apologize for your inconvenience. Personally....after looking at months of Schnitz's "tools" on Dragbike.com they are hawking Chinese stuff that isn't that great. I'm sorry for your experience and thanks for the feedback.
