two up cafe seat?
« on: August 01, 2008, 02:55:12 pm »
I am gathering ideas for my '78 750k cafe project. It will likely be my only bike for a couple of years, so I need seating for two. Fortunately, my wife is only 120lbs so she doesn't need much room ;)

A) I prefer the look of the fiberglass seats (BCR style), but those look like single seat only. Is it possible to have one made strong enough that someone could sit on top (with a seatpad) like a sportbike.

B) Reshape stock seat into cafe look (I think Carpy sells one), but this wouldn't allow for battery/electrics relocation

C) Has anyone adapted subframe and seat from a gsxr, cbr, etc. to CB750. A ducati 916 biposto would look really nice with a BCR tank.

What do you think ???

I know it's not exactly what you are thinking, but bear with me.

I guess the closest (I know, big stretch) thing I could compare my setup (god-willing) to is the Ducati Sport Classic GT1000.  Keep your eyes peeled on this board, for within the week, I may have another idea with images!

Apparently, we think alike!!! I was thinking of an undertail exhaust also. Absolutely love the look so far on your bike! I am gathering parts for a gsxr USD front end and a gsxr swingarm, single-shock setup in the rear. My progress will be ssssllloooooowwww. Work, wife, kids, and full time classes for my MBA :-[

Sweet.  I'm currently saving up so I can go get my MFA, but I know all about the life thing.  I'm hoping also to do a USD (if not USD, at little a little more modern) fork conversion, but am so hooked on the spoked wheels that a conversion like this (for me) will mean a lot of work (they are a few peeps on this board who has dabbled in this, but their resources I think are a bit taller than mine...aka...I have way to many college loans to pay for and I have a crappy job.)

The Duc's and the Triumph thruxtons do awesome jobs of simply concealing the passenger pad underneath a removable cowl, but something else you may consider is grafting a rear section from a bike with interchangable seat/rear cowl onto your own.  (I know you mentioned this, I'm simply saying it so I don't forget.)  Depending on the look you are going for, it could work fabulously.

A little something I was thinking of for myself... (the only post with a pic...so far)

I think that the new triumph's have a cafe cowl with a removable metal cover. they look like this with it on...

and like this with it off...

you could try mounting one of those. or something...

Seat cowl...not a bad idea. I'll definitely keep that in mind.

Babyfood, I used to have a couple of Buells. Just sold my XB9S. You'll love the front brake! Especially compared to the scary 30 year old setups on the SOHC.
