CB900 Coils...what size wire?
« on: September 06, 2005, 06:59:15 AM »
Hello;
Received my CB900 coils today. Wires look OK, but I want to change them...What size are they and what brand/core material is best for a 1978 CB550? I bought the 1981 CB900 coils and a Dyna-S DS1-2 ignition system. Any help would be appreciated. Dr. Mark

It's probably 7mm cable, but you could measure the diameter. Wire core cable is best, rather than resistor core. Use some dielectric grease smeared in the opening and on the outside of the cable when you screw it in the coils and caps to make turning  easier and to seal out water.
Hotrod shops have fancy coloured HT cable if that's your fancy. Most auto parts stores here in Canada do not have copper core or wire core cable and I can only find it at hotrod shops like Performance Improvements.

HT cables?   What does HT stand for?

HT = High Tension = High Voltage (old English term for voltage)

Normally referred to as "plug wires" !!
