KPH to MPH conversion
« on: August 06, 2008, 06:02:44 AM »

Hey guys

My 750 has a KPH speedo and I want to change it over to MPH.  I've seen some of the replacement dial faces advertised that apparently do the job, but it strikes me that they'll only work with the indicated speed (and not the recorded distance).  In other words, the dial will show 50mph whilst the odo records 80+.

Anyone know if the speedo drive unit (at the wheel end) needs to be changed if I swap the speedo with an MPH unit - or is the change taken care of by different size gears in the speedo?

Thanks in advance

Neil

A quick fix to convert kph to mph on the speedo is to get a calculator and a permanent marker, if you want 60 mph multiply by 1.6 and that is kph, put a mark on the speedo at that point.
Should keep you safe from the speed cops till you can get a more permanent fix.

The internal gearing differs on KPH speedometer from the MPH gauge and that's what drives the distance recorders. The calibration also differs so you can't put a MPH face on a KPH speedometer. The drive is the same it's just the gauge that's different. Look for a MPH gauge or just do as do as suggested as above.

I've got a MPH speedo with 23K miles and I'm looking for a KPH speedo for my 1973 CB750K3.  What year is your bike?
