Hello all. I have been lurking here for a couple weeks. I came across a 1977 CB400 for a very good price and picked it up about three weeks ago. All I knew about it was that it has been sitting in a garage since 1987 or so. So I figured I would go have a look. It looked surprisingly in good shape, crome was a little rusted but salvagable, no battery and hadnot been started since nobody knew. I figured I would try to bring her back to life. I got her home and got a battery, plugs, oil change and so forth. She would crank but not start, had some spark but, since I have never owned a bike so old, I was not sure if it was strong enough. Decided to clean the carbs, bought some rebuild kits (Keyster, after I ordered them I read some of the posts on this site) I used the kits anywhay. I bench sinced the carbs(thanks to the carb faq from here) put the carbs back on and bingo she was running. Sound strong and runs reasonably well through the gears. I still need to fine tune the carbs.
I need to decide if I should go with pods ar the stock air box (I do not have the pice that conects the airbox to the carbs( Snorkle??) Any suggestions would be appriciated I am going to post in the parts section also.
I also will need new handlebars, the previous owner installed AgeHangers, ouch!!!
I will post some pics soon
By the way My name is Tom and I will gladly accept any constructive advice and or critisisms(sp).
Thanks and ride safe
