Did you cut the frame to get it level? I'm considering what to do with my seat, but the frame on the 650 is angled, unlike any other CB I've seen.

no I didn't cut the frame (it's the z model) the seat sits on the frame rails and the hump goes over the rear hoop which is my mounting point

the tank came of an old race bike, Honda I'm led to believe, it still carries some battle scars but I will probably leave it as of now, there's not many ali tanks around now

Buy some 1x1x1/8" angle iron. You'll need 12-15 inches per side. place it to the inside of the frame rail where the seat sits. You want one flat on the top of the rail and one flat on the inside edge of the frame rail. tack weld them into place and you will have a nice flat spot to mount your seat. The angle irons is parallel to the frame rails if that makes sense.

well hello, someone has been here before me !!! after seperating the carbs they are numbered already with a pen, might explain why the screws all came undone without fuss.
my cunning plan to remove the slider is.......dunk that carb in boiling water, the carb body being a zinc alloy will expand faster than the slide and out she pops..............................hopefully

victorious update...........works a treat and no scoring etc. 'one small step for man'

back into the cabs, managed to wrestle out those pressed in idle jets, I couldn't believe how clogged they were, ladies and gentlemen these have to come out to clean properly, just blowing air or carb cleaner isn't enough

things will slow down for a wee while, I'm having a shoulder reconstruction in a couple of days. that's why I'm taking my time. no sense finishing the bike then only staring at it. I have saved some of the fidly bits for keeping me sane after the op

Good luck with the shoulder reconstruct Scunny, a couple of the guys at work have had them and apart from the initial 3 months or so of recuperation, they are as good as new.
I'll speed up my bike's rebuild to keep you amused ha ha.

right todays job has been rewiring. I hate the fuse box on the handlebars so that's gone and been replaced by a blade fuse box beside the battery. stale some clamps of one of my trail bikes and now the front end looks a lot tidier.

Hey are these bikes supposed to sound like a can of small stones being shaken like a martini?
I was trying to record my bikes sound to post in my project thread but stuffed up the videoing using my phone-cam.
Seriously though that is the sound, it appears to be coming from the clutch area but dissapears on acceleration?
Do you think I'm being optimistic expecting that a carb sync will cure this?
Bike starts easy enough but all I can do is shed test it at the moment as I have yet to get it revinned etc.

sorry but I've never heard one run. if it's anything like the rest of the sohc's the sound of autumn leaves rustling comes to mind.

well back into the carbs and find the PO has "lost" some seals and washers. luckily I pulled apart my CV carbs and they use the same ones.

managed to dissasemble the complete carb rack. I wouldn't trust anything on this bike, there are too many pointers to the previous PO/s having mucked up in their attempts to get this machine running. luckily I'm a patient man

Some advice Scunny, when you get it running really really good....hang onto the handlebars really really tightly
