Barber Motorcycle Museum Vintage Days
« on: August 09, 2008, 08:15:53 PM »
Any of you guys (and gals) going to the Barber Motorcycle Museum Vintage Days. The event is Oct. 16th...20th in Birmingham, Ala. Should be a lot of fun and if you've never been to the museum you're missing a real treat. You can easily spend several days there oggling the bikes....all but a few fully restored.

We will have a group riding up from Orlando and it would be great to have a SOHC gabfest.

Yup we're gonna be heading down there for the 3 day weekend, though my bro in law doesn't know if he's gonna drive or ride (he likes to buy stuff at the swap, and he had to give up some good deals last year because we rode down).

I'm gonna try to convince him to ride down and rent a 1-way u-haul if he gets anything too big to fit on the bike for the trip back.

If I did only one motorcycle related thing each year, Barber would be it.  I have had motel reservations for months.  I'm going to drive so I will have a way to get all of the swap meet treasure home. ;D ;D

Every October.  I heard some say last year that it had surpassed Mid-Ohio.  If there's enough interest, I'll try to set something up for a get together.  PM me.

I'll take Barber any day over Mid-Ohio.  Everything about Barber is a class act.

                                         Barber                            Mid-Ohio
Swap meet                          PAVED walkways              Mud or dust(stirred by idiots on dirt bikes
who think it is cool to roost
                                                                                                in a crowd.) >:(
Bought lots of good stuff   I went home with the same empty trailer
and spending cash I started with.  Everything I
saw looked like junk to me.  The few interesting
                                                                            items were overpriced.

Museum                              World Class Museum          Barber Museum is 665 miles away ;)

Track                                 Great track                      Great track

Hotels                                All Brand New                   Mixed.  The Super 8 was pretty bad.

Extras                                free trollies                      ?

Okie                                   will be there                    never again

Does this jog your memory?  Asphalt paving for all of the walkways between vendors.  1st class operation.

I'll be there Sat and Sun.  Cell is 205-243-4354, would like to see all of you who make it.  Friday Afternoon, Motorcycle Classics mag is sponsoring a charity vintage ride for Camp Smile-a-mile.  (camp for kids with cancer and their families, good charity)  OFMC has selected the route and is managing the ride.  If you're riding in, and would like to see some pretty Alabama countryside, it's a good time.  I think the cost is $35.00 per rider.  If you're interested, PM me and I'll come up with more info.  http://www.motorcycleclassics.com

OK, John, I've looked at that avatar all I can stand.  Just what is it?  A lone motorcycle, or a car with one headlight burned out?  Which side?  Hey you guys, watch this.  I'm gonna' ride real close to him and scare the heck out of him.  SPLAT!!!!!!

Musta' guessed the wrong one. :D

I'll call you when I get to Pell City.

It doesn't really show in the avatar, so I guess I'll have to change it.  I walked out one night a couple of years ago, and there was a big circle around the moon.  When I use the pic as a background, you can see the ring.  See you in a couple of weeks, I hope.

What do you guys think of a get-together for dinner one of the nights down at Barber?  There's a few chain restaurants down the interstate a few miles (Logans Roadhouse was the best).

Thoughts?  Opinions?

Lucky buggers, enjoy your time there.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I think the get-together to swap lies is a good plan! Can anyone suggest a place where we might all park the bikes in the same zip code?

Anyone on the fence, here are a couple pics of last year.  It's a total motorcycle overload.

This will be my first swap meet.  Is it better to show up Thursday, or Friday?  What is your experience?
I would like to buy some front end parts for my 1976 CB750K.  Also, just general stuff like chains, cables, bearings, handlebars, mirrors, headlight ears, etc...  i certainly don't have to buy anything there, but if it is there, I am in the market for all of that stuff.

Any input would be appreciated.

Friday.  Unless you're a vendor, I don't think you can get in on Thursday.
