Yesterday, I was talking to Elizabeth and realized that 20 years ago this summer is when I first hopped on the 72 suzi tc125.

i was 12 years old and probably about 4 foot 10 instead of 5 foot 10.   ;D

sorry if its been covered... i did a search and found nothing

Started in the summer of '71.  I was 6!  Got a 50cc Benelli Buzzer.  Rode it all thru the woods on ours and grandparents property (4 acres each - they lived right next door, too) in NE Ohio.  Never been without at least one motorcycle since...  :)

The neighbors got a Z50 and CT70 for Christmas of 1969.  Their lawn was torn up by February.

Started my intensive bike riding course in Sept. 2000. It lasted 5 days and was run by real bikers who were really good and straight to the point. If I fckd up they'd tell me so and then tell me how to correct it and make me do it until it was drilled into my skull. Most of the stuff they taught me I still remember, and use now 8 yrs later.

PS It took me 3 attempts to pass my test tho' ::)

Got my first mini bike at 14 back in 62, it's been all Honda except for a 650 Yamaha twin Special in the late 80's. Never had a bad bike and wish I still had them all.

Started in 1967 on a C100 Honda 50 Scooterette to get to work over 5 miles from home, public transport was eating into my very low wage. After various bikes I stopped about 1977, married with a daughter finances were tight. Restarted again 3 years ago.

The shilling is old english money before the pound went "metric". It used to go like this;

12 pence = 1 shilling
20 shillings = 1 pound

nowadays its;

100 new pence = 1 pound

But when they switched, 1 shilling would equal about 20 new pence. Still, alot of people got diddled or scammed during those first years. That's why we're resisting joining the Euro.
Furthermore, you might hear the pound referred to as a "quid" as in; "that part for my bike cost me 50 quid."

All very interesting, ja, but strange!!

Hey Heffster, do you mean cumulative years since first bike, or total years of riding? I picked up a '78 CB750 around 1986. I rode it for about 4 years, did one get off, and sold it prior to a move. I always wanted another CB750, but didn't get the chance until '03. So, it was 32 years since my first bike, but I've only been riding about 9 years. I answered 30 years for the survey because it sounds way more cool.

Edit: Woohoo. Did anyone catch my math mistake? It was actually 22 years (2008-1986) from first ride until now. Good gosh, if I weren't so shameless, I would have just touched it up. I've corrected my vote as well to reflect the grand total of 9 years of riding.

In 1968 when I was 8, my big sister let me ride her Honda C50 scooter. About the same time some friends got a "Grand Prix" minibike with a lawn mower engine, so I rode that too.

I started a paper round when I was 9 (when I was given my first bicycle) and saved 5 bucks, and bought an abused Yamaha Omaha off road scooter from a neighbor.

I've had some form of motorcycle ever since. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That means I was a late starter. My first rides were on the bike course (1990), and my first bike was 2 stroke CZ350. Not the smallest for a beginner, but I'm still in one piece, so I'm okay, i reckon...  :D
