Wiring iussues (1971 cb500)
« on: September 01, 2008, 10:53:56 AM »
can anyone lend a hand with the wiring issues i'm having?

for a simple, stupid handlebar swap i unplugged everything and didn't label...

the standard color to color plugging back up is producing varied results.

now, when i put my key to the accessory position, the starter motor cranks indefinitely and will not stop. but, when i put to the full start position, i cannot start the bike.

i should also mention that i had to replace the ignition switch. i got a new one off ebay, that was obviously a simple swap of part. unplug the old, plug in the new. i had been having trouble with the original one just dying on me. guess the contacts inside were getting old.

to make a long story short...i'm fk lost!

There is no accessory/start position. There is Off - Run - Parking Lights.

If you're cranking in the run position it's because your starter switch is probably stuck engaged or grounded on the bars somewhere. If you match up color to color, you should be golden if everything is stock. Nothing but the taillight should work in the Parking light position.

hey, thanks for the reply.

actually the button was/is stuck and or grounding on the bars.

a simple piece of electrical tape solved it all.

now, in the "RUN" position, i can start the bike up just fine and it runs.
