I'm looking for a clear sealer that is going to stick to my non-scuffed/etched tank.

I had an FZ750 i did that to, polished the tank then clear coated it. I used a speed clearcoat. One that is sandable/buffable in 15-25 minutes. Expensive stuff and you have to spray it out of a gun, but it stuck great and still holds up 2 years later now. I've done a few polished aluminum wheels with it too with great success. The trick is making sure the surface is COMPLETELY clean and building up lots of thin coats, letting each coat get tacky before applying another one, despite what the data sheet says for the clear coat. The Martin Senour part numbers for what i've used that both worked great is:

TC732 Extreme Speed Clear and the appropriate reducer and hardener, or
IPC15 Air Bake clear coat and the appropriate reducer and hardener

The IPC15 stuff is amazing, i do lots of bike stuff in it. You can clear a part and put it on the bike 20 minutes later, no fingerprinting, nothing. Not brittle at all either, i've done some sport bike plastics with it and you can bend the crap out of it no worries of cracking or flaking.

No problem, here's a link for the product data sheet:

http://www.martinsenour-autopaint.com/pds/martin/English/9486.pdf

Any NAPA store should be able to get it in. I'm a paint/body specialist and I work at NAPA lol. The part numbers are as follows:

QTIPC15
QTTS2
PT8876

It comes in gallons too but that'll be way more than you ever need. Those are the smallest sizes everything comes in. Over the counter regular customer pricing is gonna be high...about 170 for everything. I obviously don't pay that with my employee discount lol.

Any automotive Sherwin Williams store will have it too, but they are different part numbers. They call it HPC15 and i'm not sure what the solvent and hardener numbers translate over to. It's the same exact stuff since Martin-Senour and Sherwin are the same company. Martin-Senour is just NAPA badged is all.

If not any dupont or ppg distributor should be able to get it for ya, we use mathews paint system here at the shop i work at, and if we need to paint on clear plex or bare metal thats not scuffed we spray whats called spray bond on first.

Check em out ladies and gents.

Hmmm that looks interesting...if only I could get my employee discount on outside stuff lol.

The important thing with bare metal, is no matter what you use...CLEAN IT CLEAN IT CLEAN IT! Not just with soap and water, use a surface cleaner like Prepsol, Kleanz EZ, 3M Wax and Grease remover...some kind of professional grade body shop surface cleaner. Use one CLEAN rag to wipe it on, and seperate one to wipe it off. Making sure you don't let the cleaner dry on the surface or it leaves a residue. When in doubt...clean it again.

I used POR-15 Glisten PC on the advice of fellow member - Gregorymoto who used it on his chopper polished tank.

Here is my "before" using the clear coat....

I dont have an "after" shot but I can tell you it no longer looks like this...nasty orange peel have ruined the nice shiny tank. I think the problem for me was when it was layed on some bubbles were there (very small ones) for whatever reason and this led to the demise. Im in the process of taking it off with aircraft stripper to re-polish and try again. Gregory had better than luck than me with this product as he has his tank 2+ years now with no rust/orange peel...so it can be done!

Total cost for the Glisten PC is around $55.

good luck

cheers
Andy

These are wheels I did with the TC732 martin senour clear...was before the IPC15 stuff came out. Polished the lip, painted the spoked section copper to match the tank and clear coated the entire wheels.

Before:

After:

I'll have to find some pics of my fz750 tank since that's the exact thing you are looking to accomplish.
