Test Tach & Battery Sensor?
« on: September 11, 2008, 08:49:33 am »
I have a 1982 CB650SC. I'm trying to test my RPM but can't for the life of me find a testing tach with a range of 0-1000 or 0-2000 rpm.

I've also been having issues with my charging system and don't want to have to ditch my bike again. Any ideas for something to read the battery level? Something that can be mounted?

Model aircraft use a cheap photoelectric tach that senses lighter and darker colors as the propellor turns.  Maybe attach a rectangular plate to the the end of the crankshaft, on the points end, paint it black, and use the tach?  You can't ride like that but I am coming up with no other ideas besides another known good tachometer.  You can use GPS for speed but RPM....that is a tougher nut.

Dunno.
What do you have available to you?

I have a old automotive dwell/tach meter (by sears) I use.
It was cheap at a garage sale.
I'm sure that any auto store would have something, plenty of other places.
If you got the $$

If you got time to kill, try a search with the words "cb650 electrical".
Lots of replies.

Without seeing your bike i'm not too sure where you should start.
Have you checked all fuses?
What all have you done already?

Do you have a manual?
