for those of you with clipons...
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:18:20 AM »
how does it look/feel with the headlight mount also on the fork? seems to me that either the headlight would have to be mounted lower to make it comfortable. or just a different bracket for the headlight. i'm beginning to wonder if i should have gone with clubman bars... any thoughts?

clubman bars are simpler and cheaper and get you about the same riding position.  The down side is that they aren't as adjustable as the clipons.  If you go clip ons, then you'll likely want to modify your upper triple clamp to get rid of the handlebar clamps.  Also, if you use one of the aftermarket fork ear sets, they are angled so that you can mount them one way or the other to get your headlight positioned right where you want it.

Try the clubmans first and make sure that you like the riding position.  Then go for clipons and mod everything to make for a clean install.

clip ons can be adjusted to not hit your tank when you lock the bars one way or the other.

But you will need to ditch the stock headlight ears and get something that exposes some of the fork tube to mount the clip ons to.  I like the look of a bike with a low headlight so this is actually another benefit of going with clip ons, you can lower the headlight on the forks more.

get some aftermarket headlight clamps and put the headlight wherever you want.

You can also lower the forks in the clamps (thus lowering the front end a bit) and mount the clip ons above the triple tree. Slightly higher sitting position for you and you can keep the stock headlight mount.
