Topic: 350F Bench Sync Question - I'm Doing This Now, Please Respond Quick!

Hi. Sorry to be selfish and ask for expedited responses, but I'm working on it now and it would be great if I could finish tonight.

When bench syncing the 350F, all four slides can be adjusted.  The FAQ on bench sync is written for a 750, which only has 3 adjustable slides. The instructions are to set the idle screw until the non-adjustable slide can just fit the drill-bit, then adjust other 3 accordingly.

I can not do this - all my slides are adjustable! So, when setting the idle screw so the drill bit just fits on the first slide, should I have that slides adjusted all the way down, up, or somewhere in between?

That's normal.  Dial up the idle screw so that the drill bit just fits in the non-adjustable carb.  All slides will move up when you do this.  Next, adjust each other slide so that the drill bit just fits into it.  The end result is that all the slides will be at the same height.  Lastly, dial down the idle screw and set it appropriately.

This should be followed up with a dynamic sync using vacuum gauges.

In other words...

On a 750 slide #2 does not adjust. You screw the idle screw till that slide is at the drill-bit height.

On a 350, slide #2 DOES adjust. As do all of the others. So I'm not sure how to set the height of that slide, to compare the rest to.

Sorry, you're right, but the same procedure applies.  Use ANY carb as your reference carb.  Use the idle screw to raise any one of the carbs to drillbit height, then adjust the other three to be the same clearance.

The important thing is to get them ALL exactly the same regardless of where you set one of them at.  Set the idle at ONE spot, LEAVE it there, and adjust all carbs to the same opening, using the adjuster screws and jam nut.
BTW, not all 750's have the accelerator pump, and all 4 are adjustable.

remember to turn the idle screw all the way out then set slides so youll have adjustment on your idle screw when your done.

Got it! I think. I need to play with the idle tomorrow and the choke throttle advance, but I was able to warm it up and, at that point, set the throttle and admire how much better it runs now with timing and points done, clean carbs, new jets, and (most likely) more synced carbs. Yes!

Next up, gauge sync.
