I plan on keeping my 78 550K stock (or as stock as possible). Looking for the best price on a replacement filter for it. Dealer here can order it from Honda for about $38, I'm sure somebody has a better price somewhere.

Yes. I have a '78 550k and had to buy a stock air filter. The bike didn't have any air filter when I bought it in July. The best price I found was through Dennis Kirk. The filter was about $29 and shipping was another $5 or $6. My Harley neighbor turned me onto this company when he received a Dennis Kirk catalogue for metric bikes. They have many good parts - 4 into 1 exhausts, oil filters, plugs, etc. You should be able to find this company online via google.

Not to discourage you, but Honda is the only supplier of original air filters for the 550.  I went with a Uni and kept my original for posterity or should my son or grand-children decide to restore it should it become rare enough.

Jbailey is right. I did buy a replacement, but it is a foam and plastic air filter. The original was a metal and paper contraption.

Cycle-Re-Cycle has the Uni Foam replacement filter for the 550 for $25, I believe.  Check David Silver Spares for an OEM replacement.
