Topic: Help! I need somebody! Exhaust disaster and beyond...

I bought this damn head ache this summer. 75 Honda cb550f. I knew what I was getting into. I did a lot of research and I knew I wanted a sport bike. I knew I wanted a classic. Something fun and easy to work on. I wanted to make this thing into a cafe bike. It's turning out well. I am keeping all honda parts on there, but I am mix matching them. Got a 750 front end on the thing. Works way better for stopping power.

So any way, I finally got a good deal on the 750 rotor which was the last part I needed to get on the road. So while the bike was down I painted everything, including the exhaust. Well I got everything put together and got excited when the rotor came I put it on and went for a ride and it was great. So I rode to work yesterday and when I got there I was missing a muffler  . Yes I heard it. No I didn't know what was going on. I forgot to tighten it down. It's my own dumb fault, but that's not the issue.

The issue is the $180 dollars for a new muffler. Dennis Kirk, Old Bike Barn, etc. etc. etc. I have compared everything I could, all prices are the same. I looked into used ones and they are all rusted out and almost just as expensive as a new one for crying out loud.

I have spent about twelve hours on the net looking for an alternative. I am stuck. I just don't have that kind of cash right now. Any ideas? Please help!

Take some measurements for length and inlet diameter. Shop universal mufflers or try the auto parts store.
I have seen  "Cherry Bomb" mufflers on these bikes, and they look good.

This happened to me once.  I went back right away, but because of rush hour traffic, it was flattened!

I had bad luck with Kerker White Tip exhausts on my FZ750, had one muffler stole, and another flattened on the highway when it came off...

But yeah, try an autoparts store for a cheapie cherry bomb, just paint it black and clamp that sucker on.

Yeah I lost it early in the morning and like I said I didn't look till I got to work. Unfortunatly I couldn't go back to look till the end of the day and it was gone daddy gone.

So I can just rig some cheap thing up... Okay that is good to know. I really was not looking forward to spending all that extra cash on it.

I have a 77 550f, I needed a muffler and refused to spend big money. I bought a HD sportster off ebay for $9.00. Fit with no problems and sounds pretty good.

I appreciate the help. I am going to try to design something to work, the first step is the hardest though. I have welding capabilities available to me as I am a welder as well as a machinist. I am running into the problem of figuring out how to make a connector. I have the four in one headers, it had two mufflers on it because the guy I bought the bike from was trying to turn it into some screwed up chopper. So I want it to be four in one, but I don't know how to make the four pipes come together into one so I can throw some car muffler on the end. Any suggestions there?

check slip-on canisters on  ebay. I got a Keag Aluminium canister for less than 20 bucks. I got a length of auto exhaust pipe from a chain store and she bolted right up.
