Topic: engine stand set up

Has anyone put together a setup to be able to test run an engine while on a stand?  Ive seen shots on cyclex site but was hoping to see if anyone here is doing it.

I know this has been covered on here somewhere but I can't find the thread, anyway, someone on here gave me the idea for this

Parts Required:
Car Engine Stand : about $50
1"-2" Angle Iron: $10
Nuts/bolts/washers $10
Something to cut the angle iron with
Something to drill holes in the angle iron

I was thinking more along the lines of what it take to be able to run/tune it while on the stand.  i did use the sandman setup to get it on the stand.
so to get it to run you'll need:
battery
solinoid
reg/rectifier
start switch
coils/wires
tach
blower for cooling
oil tank
fuel supply
maybe a throttle control

I'm thinking there might be advantages to having a setup to do this, any thoughts?

Looks like a lot of work to setup, but it would definatley be nice to know that your engine's running good before putting it back into the frame.

If you go for that setup I'd be very intereseted in what it costs to set that up and how you got everything hooked up

couple 2x4's made to straddle the two bottom engine mounts. then a hangar for fuel and oil tanks. can be made for about $10. 750 engines are so robust and smooth running, they don't need to be restrained.

Well I've seen a test rig built from the lower half of a buggered CB750 frame, basically the builder chopped off the top rails, steering head and downtubes for ease of installing and removing the engine, but left the electrics, oil tank etc in place, and after chopping off the back of the bike installed a fuel tank, a bar with a throttle and a pair of coils, then just welded on some legs with castors so he could move it around the garage. Seemed to work fine, but I'd hate to chop up a good frame.

I do like that CycleX stand, having access to the whole engine while it's running would be pretty useful, I'd think? Cheers, Terry.
