Mark, I can not tell you how happy that I am, that you are coming around so well after what you have gone through! You hang in there, it may take a bit longer but you are coming back buddy and we're proud for ya!

As you can tell, this crew has been pulling for you, in what ever way they could and has been since Paul made us aware of your situation.

Have to tell you too, that Paul (paulages) has really been instrumental in getting the info to us, about what happened to you, setting things up for those who wanted to offer assistance and keeping us informed about your progress.

Welcome back there guy, this is truly a reason to "Celebrate"

BTW, if you don't mind, send me a pm (when you can, of course) with your parents address, as I'd like to pay a visit to you when I can (soon as you are up to and if you would like to).

hi guys, it's me.
Im back, to some degree.

Quick rundown:
broke:
most of my shoulder
3 vertebrae

whats screwed up still:
Killed some nerves in my upper right arm. Dont have full use of it.
neck is screwed up.

Almost died:
3 times

I've only been awake for about 2 weeks. I was really out of it for the first 5 days of those.

Bike barely damaged. I hit a planted 4x4 at 65+ mph. With my head and shoulder. Apparently theres a huge dent in the sign where my head hit. Surprisingly little brain damage (I'm back to basically 100% mentally), and interesting that I'm not paralysed.

I feel really honored by this thread. I still need to read EVERYTHING, which I will, but I do still get tired easily.

I'm moving to my parents to complete my phys rehab, and then will be going back to Portland when I'm as good as I can get.

If you guys want to know anything, ask away. Thanks again for everything. This community rocks.
And Paul, missed you this weekend, sorry I wont see you til I get back to Portland. We'll keep in touch.

Folks, I saw that Mark was online and I just sent him a short message and he responded back shortly after.

Gotta tell ya, it sure was good to hear from him.

Keep up the recuperating there Mark, we'll be looking for you to get into the swing of things again, soon as you're able.

It is marvelous to hear from you. I've been watching the thread waiting for you to pop up.

I agree with you... this community (forum) rocks!

Lots of people have kept you in their thoughts and prayers.

Recuperation is the game right now - keep your eye on the ball. My buddy is a doc and he recently treated a guy who had his elbow hanging out of a pickup truck (like we all do) and some concrete got in the way - he snapped his humerus (almost died from bleeding) and cut/ripped a bunch of nerves - the docs told him his arm was gonna pretty much hang there (if we can save it). He now has very good use of his arm. Damaged nerves are a funny thing - just remember the scene with John Wayne and Dan Dailey singing - "I'm gonna move that toe". Good luck on getting that arm/shoulder back in shape. I think we'd all like to see you at least capable of getting back on the horse.

I think most of us would like to see you on your bike.

mark it's great to hear you pulled through, we were all pullin for ya

when i almost died in an industrial accident, one thing that my mom said to me that really made me feel better about the rehab was "your gonna pull through, your gonna be fine.. . your the strongest person you know" .. that dry/wise cracking humor had to come from somewhere right

Never let the Doctor's tell you the limits of how much you can achieve. My Dad was in a motorcycle accident and shattered and dislocated his left elbow. They told him, after pinning it together, that he would probably never get it more than 3/4 of the way to straight. Just by keeping at it and not giving up, he got to the point that he is just a couple of degrees from perfectly straight.

Be Patient.

Be Determined.

What kind of helmet were you wearing?

Hey Mark...I will chime in like the rest...welcome back. You had a bunch of guys and gals here starting to turn blue waitin' on ya'. So many do not get a 2nd chance after a bike accident, so make the best of it. You will get out of rehab as much as you put into it, so work hard and keep that goal in mind. As you read these forums it is amazing just how many people were thinking, praying and wishing you the best. Have a great recovery and visit us often. Keep that mind working by answering some of our questions...and here is question #1 for you...what kind of oil do you like best and why???

Welcome back Mark! I realize you have a long road ahead and in now way wish to minimize it but it sounds like you are a very lucky guy! Not only to have escaped significantly worse brain trauma (although some would say we all suffer from that given our hobbies

) but also for the support you have around you. It will be good to be near your parents at a time like this but also in terms of your friends. Paul showed his true colours through this!

I know we all feel the same way about having you back...get well man! Oh, and try not to be too rough on your Physio Therapists! Those guys and gals have a tough job and need to be tough on you to make sure you put everything you have into your recovery.

Keep us updated as to your progress please.

welcome back Mark! I'm really really glad that youre doing as good as you are. i know that the injuries you've sustained are pretty bad and it might feel like it'll never end but, speaking from personal experience (broken neck, severe head injuries with minor bran damage) it WILL get better, i promise you that.

WOW, great to 'see' you in type!

And, glad to hear you're growing some parts back together. It will take a year, if you're typical, before you feel more normal again. Don't be too hard on your therapists.

It took 2 years before my left shoulder got to working again, but I didn't try to die after tearing it up, like you. Isn't that kind of extreme?
