BCR's New Resto Project

Though i'd share one of our newly acquired project with you guys. It's a 1950 Norton Dominator. It's a little rough but with some polishing, waxing and rechrome some parts, it will be good as new. I dont think we'll be doing any mods to this bike. yes you guys read it right, we'll just leave it close to original condition.  This will just be a simple resto project. We'll take everything apart, clean it, buff and probably make new stiainless headers. I did some research on this bike and the headers that are on it are not the correct ones. The bends are not right. 

The last owner restored the bike a couple of years ago, probably rode it for one season then stored it in his garage. The paint still looks good.  Just needs some waxing and buffing. The underneath of the fenders are imaculate. No mud or road kills. The tank, rims and primary cover needs to be cleaned, rechrome, painted. The pre unit engine needs some detail cleaning but other than maybe some high temp paint on the cylinders and some high speed buffing on the side covers, the engine would look like a gem. The transmission is a little greasy but nothing that simple green cant clean. The seat is a little old but but the distress on the seat cover looks nice. It gives the bike a real old look. The seat kinda reminds me of my grandfather's old bicycle excersice machine.

Right now the bike is all apart for cleaning, waxing and some parts to be rechrome.We'll post the detail restoration in our website as soon as i have some free time. 





Check out the oil pressure gauge on the tank. It gave me an idea for our " trixie special "project. And the speedo on the upper trees, and amp meter on the headlight.



Yes the bike came with an original pedestrian slicer. A brit bite wouldnt be complete if there is no pedestrian slicer.

That bike is gorgeous! From the pictures it doesn't look like it needs much. A little soap and water and some polish here and there should make that one hell of a bike. I'm a wee bit jealous.

Nice! While I like(and am jealous of) your work, I'm glad you've decided to keep it as is.

Gorgeous bike...man i'm jealous. Looks to be in fantastic shape!

            Whoa Benjie! That is truly a fine example of the old Nortons and, as has been said, I'm glad that it won't be modified too.  Truly a Classic Bike! 8) Thanks for posting too! ;)

Last winter, we carefully took the bike part and just cleaned everything. This bike is in good condition that all we had to do to the frame and fenders is just wash it, used some rubbing compound, and waxed it. The paint on the tins still looks good. The engine turns over, and has a lot of compression. Just had some stains though from the old gas. All we had to do was just clean it, buff the covers and painted the cylinder and head. The carburator just needed to be cleaned.  Some of the chrome was falling apart, but most of them just need some polishing. The only thing really needed the attention was the tank, wheels, battery box cover and primary cover. I was surprised that the chrome on silencers were still good. I didn't really want to make this bike too perfect. I want it to look aged and used so people would see that it's really a classic bike.   

Had some free time last weekend so i decided to work on this project bike. (ohh yeah i worked on our trixie project too. Check it out in our site.)  So many projects so little time. I got the tank and rims back from the chromer and taped up to surface where i dont want painted.



Before getting the tank and rims painted, I had to sand the chrome off so the paint would stick on the surface. I got the tank painted gold/champagne, just like the original color. I did some research and found out that back then, they would also paint the center of the rims same color to match the tank, and have the same stripes too.




Pretty much everything is done on this bike. After i got the tank back, we put the bike together. Ohh i removed the plastic wire loom off of the electrical harness. It looked too modern. I took the whole harness apart, remove the loom and used some shrink tubes and used tape. All that is left now is to get a 6V battery, bend a 1.5 stainless pipes for the headers and then stick a fork in it and its done.
