Yeah, that does sound good! Would you paint the covers and leave the tank metal or what? What blue... the same as your example?

Dunno if I'm going with covers..I'm thinking of putting the electronics in the bump of the seat and leave the center open... Not sure about which blue.... blue with flake... or a dark blue...or...dunno

Do you know what kind of pipes you have on there? I have the exact same pipes, I got them used on ebay but there are no markings on mine indicating the make.

I don't... I wish I knew... I have 3 cb500's with the same pipes...and only 1 set that weren't rusted throughout... the pair that's in the pic... I think they're must have been a craze to get a loud pipe with a chopper feel... but all of my 500's have no center stand. I think to accomdate for the width of the pipe.

Yeah they are certainly loud pipes, I had tried to remove the baffles to wrap them in fiberglass to quiet them down a bit but I couldn't get the baffle free. Mine had some surface rust on mine, I sprayed mine with the ceramic engine enamel after hitting the surface rust with some POR15. You are correct, I had to remove my centerstand when I installed these pipes, the centerstand will fit but without a pipe to stop it it will spring up into the chain of the bike. I still pop mine back on when I'm working on the bike to get the rear end off the ground.

It does not have a grease fitting, just pack it with axle grease and reassemble.

I've been sanding down/stripping the frame and getting ready for color..
I've ordered my tappered bearings "allballz"...

but I saw this on another board and thought... how the F' did he do that.. and how does he get his speedo to work?

I used ceramic heat paint... cleaned/degreased, light scuff... then painted light coats..

I hope it holds up..

not much happening with the rebuild.... cleaning parts.....yadda yadda... I did get the side stand and swing arm back on.. and replaced the missing center stand from a donor bike....

I picked up my tappered bearings.... now I have to re-read the thread from HUSH.

After that...I'm thinking of is gettting the rims/tires... cleaning up the hubs.. then putting the engine back in... but that's seems so far away....

it gets a little daunting when you think about all the crap you have to degrease, clean, scrape, buff, etc..... I should buy stock in Simple Green.. I'm trying a product called Purple Power...or something.... not as fast as SG...but it eventually gets the job done...

I'm really interested in finding a cool stabilizer bar...I've seen some that have been drilled to reduce weight ( I guess) but adds an esthetic value.

and have become more and more interested in "clamp on's..clip on's... whatever.." they look cool..but is there any performance issues?

A lot of guys/gals have/are starting their own build documentaries…I love reading through them... I'm a total F'nubby when it comes to the engine...and not much better with the rest of the bike... I rely on the experience from the members when it gets to the difficult stuff.

After the first time I got distracted after taking something off the engine, I got that uncomfortable feeling of “….oh crap where the f’ did that come off of?” The remedy was copious pics.. I did the carbs… "papp101" has the pics on the head removal… eventually, I’ll have complete teardown photo album… because I’m gonna need it to put everything back in it’s place….HA!

I've heard you have to go with powdercoat... but I'm a broke M'F'r....

So I stripped mine down,etc.. hit it with aircraft stripper... wire brushed everything... rust to paint converter... self etching primer...and then about 6 light coats of Engine Casing ceramic paint....

I went with black cause i'm really liking this bike...
