Topic: Is the Carb Adjuster Holder necissary?

I had to take my carbs off because of a speck of dirt in one of the float valves, so I figured I'd replace the hoses and orings that connect all the carbs. In the process of removing the outer two carbs from the rack, I broke the little adjuster holder, the little plate that holds the carb in pairs.  I am wondering, is this thing necissary? If so, do you think I can fabricate replacements out of tin flashing?

A few little details would help alot. What bike,what model, what year ?
 Pics of the broken part would help even more.

+1 pics, or a parts diagram indicating which part is broken, would help a lot in answering your question.

That said, there are few "optional" parts on the carb rack, methinks.

   Sorry, I know better. Here is a pic, I circled the broken part in red. The carbs are from a 73 cb500 K2. I would imagine that if I took both halves off and traced them onto some tin flashing and them cut it to shape (using a dremel and time) I could replicate them. I am just wondering if they serve any real useful purpose, as the more I think about it, the more  I think I broke the last one the last time I had the carbs off and it has been running fine till I sprung my leak .

Well, not having worked on that particular carb setup before, I may be talking out of my ass here, but as I said there are few 'optional' components on a carb rack, and that piece looks like it'd be easy to replicate.  I'd replace it personally, tin flashing may be ok as the original part looks pretty thin.

Ok, I guess I'm heading to Home Depot for the thinnest flashing I can find!!  At least I stand a good chance of fabricating this part, not like some of the other stuff I've broken.

  That would be AWESOME, but not necissary. I was able to cut them out of tin flashing, and I can tell you, the flashing is everybit as flimsy as what they were originaly made out of. Mine don't look quite as pretty, but it will work, and I have another skill under my belt.
