What kind of paint did you use for the engine?

What year is your bike?


The cylinder block, head and valve cover are not painted, just a lot of brass brush and scotch brite work. Then the valve cover is polished, I started with 300 grit, then 600 grit, then three levels of rogue on a buffing wheel in a drill.

The cases I painted with rattle can 500 degre enamel aluminum color, then I applied a clear gloss coat, again 500 degree engine enamel.  The cases have yellowed a little in the last year. especially where oil from the airbox area has dripped. 

The polishing has held up well.

I use greased lightning to clean up where oil was leaking from the tach seal.

This is my 500 4 in December 1973, I was stationed in Biloxi Mississippi.

I did  the paint in Middletown NY. 


I acquired a spare tank and side covers from a K3 or K4 for my 76 K6.

I am thinking I might have a similar Paint scheme put on the spare tank and covers. Might be nice don't ya'll think?

Not sure I would use the same stripe theme...

Orange metal flake on a silver base, 6 coats of clear lacquer.

The amazing thing, no drugs involved.

Had a chance to ride yesterday first time in 2 weeks.  I think the biggest difference in how it performs now is how I drive it, keeping the rpms above 4500 as much as possible keeps the plugs clean and the battery charged.


Still working on paint schemes for the alternative tank & side covers, F0 project has distracted me a little.

Every time I take it out, somebody stops to chat with me, yesterday it was a Harley rider in a dew(due?doo?) rag.
