HELMET STOLEN - River Street, Cambridge, MA
« on: October 09, 2008, 07:06:44 AM »
Last night was out at the River Gods bar on River Street, Cambridge, MA. My bike was parked a block from the bar and could be seen from the bar if you were standing at the door. Helmet (black Shoei) attached to helmet lock on the bike. Came out at 10.15pm and helmet was gone  >:( Some "fu*%er had cut the strap that attaches to the helmet lock - this is NOT the chin strap so now they have a functional helmet - WHO does these kinds of things???? Scumbags!! Used to be you could leave anything on your bike and know it would be there when you got back....fu%*#rs!! It wasnt even a good helmet - couple of years old, scratched, worthless to sell, but very comfortable to me!

I had to call the g/f who came in the car with my spare and I rode home. HUGE thanks to her!! While waiting for her I also called the cops and they showed up in 2 min! I just wanted to let them know about the crime in the area nothing more- but big thanks to them for the quick response.

Dirty thieving b's. Chances are it was heaved in a dumpster to boot. I hate to say this but cut off that helmet lock and carry the damn thing with you. Forces them to steal it out of the bar where someone who gives a #$%* might see.

I agree there was a day when you could leave your hat & jacket with the bike. Only chance to do that these days is a vintage bike event it seems.

I agree with you on both points. Lesson learned and I just wanted to post it here so that someone else might learn from my mistake.

Cheers

Things like this are just stupid. Why steal a lid? Sad thing is if you HAD used the chin strap and they didn't cut it, they would probably pee in it! I heard of that one from someone else here. It does seem as though the lids that say shoei or Arai, get stolen more often. Probably cause of the name and the high cost generally associated with them.
If I ever caught someone stealing my helmet, I would break their knees with it. Just grab that strap and swing like hell! >:(

Andy,

Well that SUCKS!!!  >:(  FWIW, I ONLY leave my helmet/gear on my bike if I am at a motorcycle function. I would never just leave my gear on it parked in the street .

I know the street and the gin mill, not far from my hotel when I am up there. A lot of young punks up and down that street. During the summer I did see a 750 parked just off the street, I was wondering if it was a member here. Sorry to hear about that Andy.

Andy I feel you man. Except some one tried to jack my whole bike and it was parked right next to the patio area where there was a bunch of people sitting. They screwed up my ignition and I couldn't even get it started. Had to push the thing three blocks to the shop. Luckily I was right by my work. Sorry to hear about your loss bro. I always bring everything I wear in with me, even my ten dollar gloves. I'm cheap   ;D

I agree I got off lightly....first thing I did was check the tires and inside the gas tank! I feel your pain as well - when I was in Scotland as a student my buddy took my bike and left it overnight in a University car park...I went to pick it up the next day and someone (or more) had taken a large brick/stone to the bike and smashed in the gas tank after having pushed it over..found it lying on its side leaking gas....sad sad day indeed....ended up filling in the dent with bondo/painting over it and riding it for another year before selling as is...

A) Ill not be riding to Cambridge anytime soon and b) Ill be locking it when I park in public and taking everything off....you are so right Sam.

cheers
Andy

Man that really p!sses me right off!! God help the (really trying not to swear here) waste of skin who gets caught.

Why is it these piles of crap rarely are caught? I've been the victim of vandalism and theft and it's God's mercy for them I didn't catch them.

Deep breath... I really feel for ya Andy, and agree with others here that sadly the world has seemed to have changed. Part of the problem is that in this PC society people rather just shrug shoulders and say "oh well, what are ya gonna do?" There's a considerable lack of shame today in bad behavior.

Hope the loser OD's on the drugs he bought with the helmet money.
