Initial jetting recoommendations for '78 750 with MAC and Pods
« on: September 19, 2005, 08:33:07 PM »
I've come to Chicago to pick up a bike and ride home to Seattle. All is well and tuned, but I find the PO did not re-jet to accomodate the K&N pods and MAC 4-1.  All other basic specs on the bike are set, and I want to drill the jets out to make the long ride home smoother.  Does anyone have a quick recommendation about sizes to drill the slow/main jet and where to set the air screw.  Again, a 1978 750K model. Thanks,

Bryan

Is that an F or K model??? If it is an F you don't have to drill the slows out. You just have to twist and pull. DO NOT ROCK THEM side to side. They will come right out with finesse. If it is a F model the slows are 35s stock and the mains are 105s. You will need to go larger to compensate for the excess air. You may have to try an assortment and see what works best. The new slows just push right in, they do not screw in. I would search "Slow Jets" and read some of Buffo's post on this subject. I think he has a K8, I have an F3 so one of our posts would be good to read. The guys replied to mine and I was able to get mine done without a hitch. So good luck and have a safe trip.

On my 1977 750F model in Michigan I was able to get it running perfectly with 120 mains, I left the pilots alone (cleaned them out really well) and went to 4 turns out on the mixture screws.  I am running screened velocity stacks and a MAC 4 into 1 with the baffle gutted out but the endcap intact.  Hope this helps! ;D

Thanks for the input.  I have 110 mains and the 35 slows.  I will work on the mixture screw, then - taking it way out to help the low end problem before I drill the slows.

I would say to go back to the airbox since there have been problems with the pods that more and more people seem to report. You should not have to change anything other than to richen your low speed mix. Mains can be swapped like any other jets. But doing that means a sync otherwise you will still have a rough ride.
