'77 550 SS Cafe
« on: October 14, 2008, 03:47:08 PM »
I got a '77 550f from my friends dad for free about three years ago, but have only began to really work on it in the past 6 months. Now that the 550k is done, I'll focus more of my attention on this project.

My Plans for the project are as follows:

Color scheme:

Black,Red,Polished Aluminum, with subtle touches of gold

         Frame: Gloss Black

         Tank: Black, Red, and Gold

         Forks: Black

         Rims/Hubs: Black

Seat: Black leather w/ gold thread?

         Engine: Silver/Black

Swingarm:

          Aluminum  from '83 GS1100

Shocks:

          CB 900f

Rims:

          Hopefully aluminum w/ stainless spokes

Seat:

         one off fiberglass

Electrical:

Completely rewire, LED everything, HondaMan ignition, electronics under the seat hump

Engine:

Hone and new rings, port and polish, valve guides

Thats the game plan for now, I've been mulling over this thing in my head for a while and can see it pretty clearly, hopefully I will be able to translate the image into reality. I plan on doing the majority of the work my self, so its not going to be done anytime soon, but thats not important. It will be a very detail oriented build, I'll try to customize every aspect of this bike to the best of my abilities.

Here is a crappy cell pic of the cylinder block I've been working on; I filed down the rough edges on the fins, polished them, masked them, then painted it with gloss black engine enamel. I plan on doing the same to the cylinder head.

Thats all for now, thanks for looking :)

What about dropping in a 650 cam as that is one easy/cost effective mod I keep reading about? Especially if your going port/polish at the same time? Who is going to do the headwork, out of curiosity?

Oh yeah I forgot to add that on the list, I've been checking eBay daily. I'll be doing the head work myself. Thanks

What did you pay for the swingarm (if you don't mind me asking)?

I think I got it for about $50 dollars off of ebay, I had been looking for around 7 months, they can be hard to come by, so snatch one up if you've got the chance.

You have some pretty neet stuff going on here;
I like the jugs and the box in job on the rear of the frame.

Was there much work in the swingarm swap?

Keep the pics coming

Mark

Thanks for the comments guys, I haven't tried to tackle the swingarm yet, but I don't think it will be too difficult; will probably just have to make a couple spacers.

Holes covered up...

Nice looking project. Those LED panels are alittle pricey. I won't how much it would be to make your own.

What cracks me up is, I think I have the same weights you used to hold the frame in place.
