Popping out of gear
« on: September 21, 2005, 07:08:44 AM »
My 750k0 has developed a nasty habit of slipping out of fourth into neutral. Thoughts?

With thanks!

For the non-mechanic, such as myself, how big a job is it replacing the dogs?

For any of the above it's an engine strip.

Look at it this way...

While you're in there, you can have a close look at everything else as well.

Seems a bit extreme if all you've got is a few worn gearbox parts.

That's it Dusty.  The great unknown.

Why change a $200 engine strip into a $2000 big bore conversion?

My only experience with big bore kits was a 180cc CB125S I had in 1976. It was a moneypit.

It's a K0. It's 35 years old. If the transmission is acting up I'm sure the engine needs freshening up everywhere. The internal rubber parts are hard as a rock. The pistons probably have about .004 of piston to wall which means new pistons anyway which also mean cylinder boring. An 836 kit isn't unreasonable at all.

Couple of Questions.
How long has the CB been jumping from the gears and how many Milles has it done?.
I had a similar problem when I first had the bike of mine.
I changed the oil to pure mineral oil no more jumping out of gear and the clutch rattle stopped so did the slippage there too.

Oh Happy Day!

Last night I pulled the cover of the shift mechanism and what did I find but one of the return springs had not been put in properly. Re-seated the spring - problem solved! No engine strip down required. Now if I could only get my carbs running properly.

Thanks for the replies.
