Go for it man! Do you have any close up pics of your avatar photo? I'd really love to do something with the front fender like that euro plate of yours.

Thanks! You and me both. I had to move all my tools and bench out to the garage yesterday as I'm moving out and the landlord wanted it all tidy BEFORE my lease was up. Sheesh.

The focus now is to re-organize the garage to get work done out there, finish the carbs and wiring harness in the house then move those out to the garage as well and onto the bike.

Ready for some irony? I dumped out a little bucket of "WTF is this and where does it go?" parts and found a piece of black fuel line.

. . . .

With the brass nipple that I was missing attached. Oh well, now I've got a spare!

On the subject of fiberglassing my own sidecovers, I feel it's going to be an absolute pain to get them matched up for the right depths in the right mounting tabs. I'm considering buying a replacement set.

I just spent nearly the whole weekend going the work trucks, trailer and storage. Sorting out buckets of WTF stuff and tools, why did I keep that ? and that is where that went..........

Sucks

I hate moving. The only up side is it forces ya to go through all the crap that has accumulated and chuck it. Hopefully it won't make ya pause too long on your build.

Thanks guys. I've got it set up in the garage and have the back tire/chain on and am waiting for the stator/cover/front rotor to come so I can button up the front end and put er down on to wheels.

Hey, looks like you've made good progess here! I'll keep an eye on how your seat turns out, and I'll be referring to your thread here when I get further into my build.

Updated progress!

Spent some time installing the drilled rotor and finishing the switch housings and wiring harness. Drilled the switch housings to exit the cables through the housing as opposed to through the bars because that's a friggin pain.

Today I'm polishing the remaining stator cover so I can install the cover for it that my pops made. Looks like chrome! Made new gaskets for the carb tops, and finished the wiring harness. I'll be using today to install that as well. Maybe firing it up this week!

Got the controls mounted on the bars.

Cleaned the carbs from leaving them in simple green too long, and put in the new bowl gaskets.

Bench synced the carbs and they're ready to roll!

Mounted the intake tracts.

I had ebay'd a replacement stator, and it had blade connectors from the CB550 model. Had to un-crimp all those and re-crimp! I'll have to keep an eye on that a few months from now for an update.

Carb boots installed.

Put oil in it and tested the starter. DAMN I LOVE THAT INLINE 4 SOUND!

I need to open up this solenoid as it's not working, and if not grab a riding mower one from the auto store.

I will post a video of the first start up as soon as I get it!

Here's for all you cafe addicts. As always, it's easier for me to type my thoughts and progress, then just paste the image tags. I'd like to put a little header on each photo, but it's just not really worth the time as you get the gist either way.

I replaced the starter solenoid with one from the parts store that should be on a riding lawn motor of sorts. Works great and fits almost the same. 12v 200amps.

Made a "test tank" setup with two waterbottles and some o-rings. Haven't leaked yes and I know it's not safe so spare me the lectures. Works great.

Measured the rear-peg mounts to make adjustable rearsets using the peg hole as a "pivot point" for a large triangle bracket that will have a "cam lobe" attached to push against the top-rear of the original peg mount. Adjusting that lobe will raise the front of the new bracket up and down to fit the leg room. Great idea dad.

Set up a battery for testing.
Modded some dirt-bike fork gaiters to fit. Damn they look nice. That one was a little pat on the back for me.

Fiberglassed the cafe mold with one layer, then popped it out and set it over the seat pan. Added two layers of the heavy fiberglass. It will need a layer of bondo for the finish as I'm a little new at the glass, but I think it will layer out ok.

LASTLY THE MOMENT YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR.....

The last problem was one created by myself when I first turned the engine over in November. I had stupidly used the points side of the engine with a big wrench to rotate the crankshaft when it was seized, and that ended up BENDING and seizing the spark advancer. For some reason when I reassembled it once, it was in the correct position and the bike ran fine, as you can see in the videos.

I took it apart to lube the advancer and found what I had done to it. I worked it back and forth until it seemed to be moving correctly, but then found that it was indeed slightly bent after reinstalling because it wobbled slightly and the bike wouldn't run. After hours of tinkering I realized that with it being out of round it wasn't making constant increasing pressure on the points, thereby affecting the "dwell" of the points. It would keep one side open too long, and the other side not open long enough. I've bought one off ebay which should be here this week. At least I fixed my fuggup.

I have a SAM'S club gas tank just like that, except mine has a black tape ring to hang it from the handle bars  8)

It is one of the reasons I have not posted sound from the homemade pipes, I did'nt want to hear about the sam's club gas tank.

Hey man! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, I haven't dumped the camera in a while.

I installed a kit for the master cylinder up front, made a 2nd tail that actually looks good and dented and bondo'd my tank in where the honda badges would have gone. Have some more body filler stuff to do on that, then it's "prime time" and then "paint time."

My floats are now leaking, which never happened before so I'm going to have to pull those off and clean them up a bit, or buy new ones. Seeing as how I don't want to spend more than I  have to, I'll probably just steel wool the tips of the floats very gently, then do the seats where they sit in the carbs. I think it's just number one, but i'll hook up the fuel while I have the carbs off the bike and check it once.

Getting close!

Finally took a pic with my cell phone.

Just mocked up the tank, tail and stock seat. Looking good! I like the lines of it.

Some pinholes and edges I'll do on the tail tomorrow morning, then wire wheel and paint the seat pan. If I have time I'll sand and pinhole putty the tank as well, and possibly put them on the bike again to drill the bolt holes of the seat hump. All before lunch tomorrow. Not sure if it will really happen, but I'm going to give it a shot!

Thanks guys! I think the last time it started was. . . . wait for it. . . the last time it had tabs. . . . 1975.

There will be a big post of pics in a few minutes!

Thanks oldhondarider, I've got the paint on and it's make parts of my body react in ways that I won't type about, but it's a lot like walking in to your girlfriend wearing only your button down shirt and holding a beer and a glass of wine. . .

So, I painted it. With funjimmy's ok to copy his paint scheme!

I have 3 areas to fix. the curves on the tail, the right side cover, and a little spot around the gas cap. I'm going to put the blue stripe on today, then rub the whole thing flat so you don't see the rattlecan "orangepeel" or overspray.

Once it's flat, I'll ship it to my dad to pinstripe and clear with some decals. Looking good! Have to tidy up the wiring harness and install the rearsets! Diggin it!

Papp

What the HeII is going on?
That paint scheme is copy protected! Phych!  ;D

Looks great! I considered the white trim on the side covers, but didn't go there.
Nice to see what it would have looked like.

Have you found the blue yet?
I have a nice rattle can blue (used for the first cafe seat on my bike) at home that I will send you the code for if that helps.

Cheers
Jimmy
