Sometimes life is stranger than fiction..
« on: November 07, 2008, 11:20:55 PM »
Tonight we went for a burger at our favorite drive in, a friend and his wife on his 08 street glide and me on the Suzuki (Honda still down). Had a great time at the drive in, Mekun showed up and we BS'd for a couple hours. Now it gets weird... We went to ride home (my friend is also my neighbor) and got a few blocks from the drive in and got waved down by a couple of guys on Harleys, straight piped bottle cap helmet kinda guys. Wanting us to ride in some parade this weekend, for a good cause but?? I'm on a Suzuki bro.. I don't own a Harley. The conversation gets more strange when these guys start telling us they are wanting us to maybe join their group and oh yea.. they take all kinds of bikes. Enough of that we say fair wells and head out. Get about 6 blocks from home and my friend hits a deer! At about 40mph. I'm right behind them and I see the deer jumping into the road then their headlight goes dark.. Impact! Deer goes flying, the bike stays upright and he rolls to the side of the road. Nobody hurt! Bike is ok except for a probably expensive Street Glide front fender. His wife, on back, didn't even realize they hit anything! I watched the whole thing go down and thought I would see sparks from the bike going down but nothing. We pulled the front fender off the tire and road home and popped a couple Newcastle Brown ale! Boy, life can be strange!
peace

Look at it this way....maybe if those guys didn't wave you down and you didn't stop, you could have been in the path of two or THREE deer.  The one deer you friend hit could have been the last of a herd.  There's a reason for everything.

I can well imagine that those events will be in your minds for sometime. Sure am glad that no one ended up in a hospital too! Like Steve F said, "There's a reason for everything." ;)

Those Harley guys weren't wearing "Rainbow" braces, or perhaps "God Squad" colors? There's gotta be a catch...........  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

How true on the multiple deer. I would say atleast 50% of the time, perhaps more, when I see one bound across the road well ahead of me, I slow down drastically, as two or three more follow the first and may not be in sight yet.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Wife and I were out cutting fire wood in the George Washington national forest  a long way from anywhere. While I was busy cuttn she was kickn around in leaves near the access road. She found 8 or 10 Newcastles scattered about, unopened . When the truck was full of wood we sat there in the woods and had few. Tasted  GOOD !  ;D
Glad to hear nobody got hurt hitting that dear  PJ !  LOTS of those in my are too.

Wow, That seems like your friend and his wife got through that experience about as easy as one can. Definitely enough to qualify for several beers!

New Castle is the beer of choice. When I lived in San Diego that's all I would see floating around the bar. Not so much here in Minneapolis, a lot of scenesters... a lot of Pabst... *gag*

So I have had a few days to compile all that happened that night. I went into my riding jacket to retrieve something...(can't remember what) I forgot, biker dudes gave me a flyer..

Newcastle Brown ale rocks. A friend of mine is a home brewer and turned me onto it a couple years ago. Kinda spendy but good stuff. ;)
