Um.... Too much speedway???
« on: November 15, 2008, 06:30:38 AM »
Well we got started on this speedway thing with the dirt and board trackers.... And I came to the conclusion that I personally have too many pictures and interest in this subject to contain it in one or two posts. So please don't be offended if I flood the board with all kinds of antiquity...

I have lots more so..... Stay Tuned.

1909 Indian Single.... Owner said it was very close to 250cc's!!!  :o Not sure about that one though as I don't know enough about them.

HERE's MORE!!!

This is a 1911 Indian Twin - The precursor to the "PowerPlus" - Came with the optional lighting kit but sadly the rear light was lost.

And last but certainly not least.... 1912 Indian 8-valve Racer!! When it was listed on E-bay the owner said it was a period specific restoration and that it actually was NOT a true racer. After it was sold I sent an email to the winning bidder (e-gay didn't hide your name back then) and asked him for more numbered info on the bike... turns out the seller was wrong and as the cases had no serial number only letters to designate where it was to be sent...... RACER IT WAS!!!!

My great grand-father owned and raced his Indian and later a Harley-Davidson back in the late teens early twenties. After years of trying to get old pictures out of him they were never found after his death. Lots of stories though. He died in 2005 at the ripe old age of 105... 6 days short of his 106rth birthday.

Well God bless your Great Grandfather! And these are some of the nicest picture I've seen yet of these fantastic machines! They are so natural the bikes seem more real to me; just don't fire up the thing with all that hay around. ;D Thanks Havoc' for the post. I don't care who you are, if you love machinery you have to appreciate these... and the men (and some women) who rode them.

Here's more... Sorry about all the picture flooding...

I just cannot seem to get over this time period. I have been looking for an older Indian Single or even a Honda single to try to recreate a piece of this history. I think I'm going to take Ecosse's inadvertent advice and try something really "out of the box".... lol.

1912 Indian Twin

1913 Indian Single

1913 Indian Twin

1914 Indian Twin

1914 Indian Single Racer

Since the speedway bikes and board and dirt track bikes interested me so much, I started trying to collect some information on them where ever I was. My next update will have my favorite Motordrome racer... The Indian PowerPlus!!!
