You folks might be well beyond what I'm talking about here but I've had nice success with Audacity (which is, of course free - 'cause I like free and/or cheap). Google it and you'll find where you can download it. I believe you can do 16 tracks with it (prolly only one at a time).
I know a guy in upstate NY who uses some fancy software (read: not free) and a multi-input sound board for his recording but he does some fantastic stuff. Check him out on Youtube. His name on Youtube is MarkMusicMan. He's big on Badfinger, Zeppelin, Floyd, Frampton, others. He ain't an SOHC4 kind of guy but he is a good guy
