forbearances = delay payments, interest still accrues
deferment = delay payments, interest does not accrue

deferments usually only happen when you go back to school or you are below poverty level.

Wonder if they would catch on if you were creative with your situation:  Work for a university, and also take classes (which the university would let you take for free) but technically you would be a student?  :-)

naja...it doesn't usually matter... if you're taking classes, you're in school... being in school affects your allotted time per day that you have to make money and that is kindof how it is looked at.
only thing different in that situation might be that you have to apply for the deferment... but they usually find out on their own that you're going to school and automatically apply a deferment.
student loans are MUCH different than private loans.  while you'll never get rid of them in a bankruptcy, they make them as easy to repay as possible... low interest rates, deferments/forbearances, etc.
my recommendation to anyone thinking they might like to delay payments would be to call your lender's 800 number as opposed to looking up all the paperwork nonsense... usually they can do it right over the phone w/ no paperwork needed and it will be in effect pretty much that day!  my signature was the fact that i actually had to say: yes, i do intend to repay this loan.      as if the past year hasn't been any sort of indication.

Well....was doing some research today and cruched some numbers. What if they would have given that bailout money back to the American people? Check out what I found......UNREAL!!!

2006 US Population = 305 Million People(everyone...babies and elderly)

2006 US Workforce = 151 Million People



1.487 Trillion Dollars / 305 Million People = $4,875.41 back to each person in the US!!
....or....
1.487 Trillion Dollars / 151 in the Workforce(tax payers) = $ 9,847.69 back to each tax payer in the US!!

What could you have done with an extra $9,847.69 back to you....in addition to your normal tax returns?

Buy a new car??
Pay on your Mortgage???
Maybe use as a down payment for a new house???
Most important....maybe buy a new bike?

Umm, cars arent selling period. Imports or domestic. Living in Michigan right now is a real bummer. Week by week I have no clue if it'll be my last and it's not like I can relocate. I cant sell my house, nobody's buying, therefore cant move to get a job elsewhere. It's tough and I have a family to take care of also.

Even with the bailout, and the Big 3 stay in business, will people all of a sudden start buying cars? I dont see it happening. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

I hear the president is going to appoint a task force to oversee the Big 3's use of the bailout money. I also hear that GM is streamlining their selections of models and options that come with those. Yeah, I live near and work in Lansing and it is quickly becoming a ghost town.

Hopefully the talk about the film industry growing in Michigan is all legit and it will do something for the state.

Naww, they'd ruin it like they did tobacco, probably manage to lace it with PCP and formaldehyde and other horrible crap. No thanks govt., you can keep your goofy marijuana laws.

Prostitution legal, you're beginning to get somewhere, although the womanists would never hear of it- don't want anyone stepping in on their marriage institution.
