oil leak.

So the previous owner of my bike informed me that there is an oil leak that comes from where the shifter leaver comes out but only leaks upon start up and after the bike is stopped.  I never experienced this seeing as I rode the bike once and it was 35 degrees out. 

Anyone got any ideas of what might be wrong?

The seal needs to replaced, becasue god only knows if that has ever been done.  Check out www.servicehonda.com they have em there and all the other stock goodies you might need.

God was a service technician for a well known Honda dealer in his youth, of course he knows.
search shifter seal and you will be delighted at the info. it's not a biggy

Takes ten minutes not a big deal at all.  I think I paid less than $8 for mine.

I think the bike is terminal, and he needs to sell it to me.  ;D

1980 cb650c first bike i owned now the wife's ride.           1982 xv920j virago, bike i learned to ride on rescued it from a 13 year coma (sitting in the shed) now she runs beautifully and rides like a dream.

Um, why do you need to remove the forks to replace the shifter seal?  :o

whoops, I dont know why I had forks on the brain today, I think it was from reading about squirley's 550 build  ;)

Yes I would definitely recommend not removing your forks for this procedure, you should try the shifter lever instead lol
