CB550 ignition switch relocation
« on: December 17, 2008, 08:25:51 AM »
Will an early CB500 ignition switch bracket fit on a '77 CB550F?
Could someone post a picture of their switch and bracket so I can get an idea of how and where they fasten?

Anyone have an extra bracket they would be willinf to part with?

Thanks
Jimmy

No it wont unless you weld it on and if you did the switch wont fit so if you fit an earlier switch the loom wont fit.

Anything else?

Bryan

That's not the news I was hoping for.
Thanks for it though.

Reconfigured the triple trees and the switch just stands out like a sore thumb.
Need to find a clean alternative to mounting on the top triple.

I am doing the same on my bike as well. I am actually using the orig location on the triple tree to mount the new mini tach and speedo. The ignition will go under the seat. Not sure where yet. I am also changing the wiring on the bike to use less wires and only a on/off ignition switch.

If you take the loom, switch and bracket from a 500/550 72-76 (early 500 ones were a different loom) you should be able to transplant them but will end up with only 1 fuse and no starter safety circuit depending on year
