waiting for the rest of all ordered parts for my stroker projekt (pistons, sleeves, gaskets), i did some work on my egli replika.
first I had a track day at pannoniaring to test the changes been done to the front fork. all i noticed that there had been not any issues any more with the front fork. there was no chattering during hard cornering coming from the front end no more.
under hard breaking however, i felt some minor hopping on the rear wheel. this could be caused by the lack of a rear wheel chain damper. another cause can be found in the wilbers rear wheel shock absorbers. they do have adjusting screws for inward dampenig and fast and slow outward dampening. none of them i altered since i got the absorbers. there is plenty room to play with.

at the monet i am prepairing the bike for the race in rijeka in oct, 10th.
i decided to give the metzeler roadattack z6 a chance. the tire is 160x18 rear and 110x18 front. mounted on the 4" rim, the tire is 150mm wide. there are no problems with the chain, > 6mm room.
the last days i prepaired a second set of wheels. again Marvic magnesium wheels, bridgestone BT45 equipped. the rear 140x18 tire is on a 3.75" rim.

forgotten to mention: at the track day a friend of mine raced a Yam FZ6 S2, brandnew bike with 100rear wheel HP. he told me that he was unable to follow my bike on the straight

Love those wheels Mec. Ill be interested in your review of the BT-45s. For me they are a great all-round tire that stick very well in the corners. Good luck with the race!

Hi mec,

As always looking very good, although I am not a fan of these 'modern' wheels for our lady. I prefer the SMAC or EPM, RONAL. But when you're racing you want the wider, more sticky tires.
A friend of mine bought a JANTON frame which is similar to the EGLI.

back from the race weekend in rijeka. all went fine.

i can tell you, the bike is rocket. when there is a guy riding a segale-kawa, 1200ccm, yoshi stage 2 cams, 33 keihin cr, and this guy walks around my bike the third time, shaking his head and asking how many ccm it does have, and asking how it can be that i passed him on the straight......then it is a sunny day, this makes happy.

friday we had seven practice sessions, four of them had been timed. i participated two of them. the first session i taped a garmin GPS device onto the fuel tank, cause i was curious about the bike´s Vmax on this raceway. the bike was geared 17/42, tires Metzeler roadtec z6.
Vmax was 217km/h at ~8900rpm.

the second session i tried to improve my laptime and achieved 1.48,26. this was good for the first row in the 36 riders field (for this day. saturday a second BMW rider put me to fifth place. polesetter was a Yamaha TR1, followed by two BMWs and a Segale Kawa).

i was very happy with this result and decided to retire from the races. the bike run more than fine and i prefered to watch the races.

1:48 is  a pretty good time, specially considering you did it on z6's! (why those road tires BTW?)

there is a guy in germany, jens hofmann, guzzi dealer, more than skilled rider and often winner in his vintage class, who wins on the racetec tires. he told me about the very good race performance of these tires and said that they would last more than a complete race weekend. that was all info i had, what made me try this tires.
i was happy with the tires. the one and only trouble i had, i wished to have a minimum more grip, but i think thats the wish of every racer.

the polesetting TR1 had battlax bt014r rear and some dunlop in front. is this the better choice?
the racers goal is to have tires with max grip and they have to last the whole race(wekkend)

Its interesting to hear about the Z6 as race tires, I use them all the time in my two old GSXR's and they really hold very well on the street.

What really surprises me is that they let you put 17" on a vintage racer, in italy we are just allowed 18" and this is the situation in many other countries like the US, UK, etc. So is "grab the flag" different?

G'Day Mec, I've been away from this thread for awhile now, but I'm still impressed mate, that bike is amazing!

seems that you are right

back from race weekend "grab the flag" pannoniaring.
my egli replica performed fine. battling on the straight with 1260er kawas is not bad at all. on the other hand there was a 820er rickman sohc that seemed to have nearly the same topspeed and acceleration as my 1100er sohc. the rider told me, that he can rev the engine over 11000rpm. in combination with his racing transmission this engine performs incredible well.

in the first 3 practices i laped at 2min18`5". that was good for 6th place in the second row. 40 riders in this class.

sunday morning i decided to do my last practice session and was not willing to push too hard. but there was one rider, i saw a chance to overtake him at the beginning of a turn, i lost the front wheel and crashed. fortunately nobody else was injured but me.

all major parts of the bike seem to be ok (from a first optical check). fuel tank, fairing, seat and a lot of small parts severerly damaged but repairable.

i am suffering a multiple broken scapula and two broken ribs.

curious if i will be able to compete in Spa which will be held at 11-13 of june. in case i am not able to drive, i will be doing a mechanic job.

my friends will help to finish my guzzi-project.

Good luck with a fast recovery Mec, perhaps speak to Dr Costa  and hope the bike damage isn't as bad as first thought. That cautionary finger on the clutch lever suggests you learned your craft on a 2-stroke

no, yes, you are right. i didn´t learn to ride on a two stroke, but i will never forget the suddenly seizing engine of the TZ 350 in the fastest corner of the A1 ring in austria many years ago. it was a great luck to stay on the bike without crashing.


tired of not knowing the lap times instantly?
the weekend at panring my friend and I used the new Stealth GPS2 laptimer of starlane (www.starlane.com).
this is a very interesting device to play with. it shows you all your laptimes (accuracy better than 0.01sec), a red led flashes when you set a new lap record, you can set 3 intermediates and so on....
all datas are saved to your laptop via bluetooth and in combination with the digirace MMX software you can see your path on the track for every lap. you can overlay two or three laps to study your path, your G-loads accelerating and decelerating, G-loads lateral, when you brake or accelerate the shown path is blue or red, max speed, speed on each point of your path.

the digirace software showed me crashing at 96km/h (speed at my previous lap). unfortunately the crash-lap is not showing because i didn´t finish the lap (:
we sent an inquiery to starlane, eventually this lap can made to be visible. i am sure, that the next betaversion of the software will be able to show laps not finished. this would help investigate crash cause.

all in all a help for the serious racer (when you compare your datas with a much quicker rider).
