Not a great picture, some idiot reset the picture setup on my phone to low quality. Anyway, I took a ride Sunday down to Indiana to check out a '76 Goldwing for my next project. Took Rt 20 and then the Dunes Highway (Rt 12) to Beverly Shores, IN. The GL was crap (but still could be a good project base for the right $$), but parked across the street was the Rolling Stonebaker Pizza Truck, which I had read about last Fall. It's a local couple who converted a 1949 Studebaker fire truck into a mobile pizza kitchen.

So if you're in SW Michigan or NW Indiana I highly recommend a ride over to have some terrific thin crust pizza.

I believe that they typically park right at the Beverly Shores train station when not at a special event. Theres a stop light and a gas station, it's very easy to find.

in queensland australia you have a "solo"seat registration option,,passenger pegs must be removed and the seat no longer than 500mm,its then about $220 per year with the compulsory third party insurance as opposed to nearly 500 bucks,,you have to get the bike inspected by a roadworthy place who give you a certificate of compliance and a little plate gets affixed to the bike,,on old classic bikes once thats done you can get away with the factory seat refitted but still no rear foot pegs.

Not a very pretty setting, but it's legal, free, and the wall behind the bike is my office. It just doesn't get more convenient than that in the city.

WTF?! Is it cheaper to drive a car or a bike in Australia? I know you're talking NZ with the crazy cost, but I want to bring my bike if I move to Oz. How much should I expect to pay per year for registration (whatever it's called down there) for a 78 cb750(836)F?

Yea, that's pretty spendy. In Illinois plates cost $36 a year (cars are over $100) and there is no safety inspection.

radam your bike will cost about the same as mine,$500 or about half that with solo rego if you come to queensland,the compulsory third party insurance is worked out on the engine size,my 5 litre car just cost me $980 for the coming year,no concessions on daily driven cars although you can get special club rego or similar for cars only used rarley on club events and then its as cheap as chips,bikes here pre 76 have no compliance plate,your 78 might need to be inspected and an australian compliance plate fitted,if you go to new south wales the inspection will be conducted by the last of the true nazis!

clayton is in victoria,,victoria is cool as far as rego official stuff,,i used to live in centre rd clayton and worked there aswell,its a bit multicultural now,the local council passed a law that shops must also have english signage on them,i think rego is slightly cheaper down there,,the rego prices ive stated include the third party insurance.

My 4 litre car costs $280 a year to reg, my 650 bike $650 our dumb govt needs replacing and I'm working on that.

I'm sure our policies are different, but I'd be excited about prices like that! (I'm in Canada)

1.6L car = roughly $1600/annually
550cc bike = $1300/annually

Jjust for your info guys, I have just finished reading in the NZ Goldwing Riders news letter and article relating to the changes to vehicle licensing laws in an attempt to prevent bikers doing just what you guys (and myself is included in this practise), that is riding exempted bike to for go the hoorendous rego costs.
The changes to the plans are due to be introduced on May 1st the article stated (so could possibly be in force, although I havent heard anything to say they are) but the upshot of the hole thing is that if tickets/ fines issued by a parking warden will remain as they are but if they are issued by a police officer then the fine is being reduced to $150.00 but you will be issued 20 demerit point.
The table shown in the article is as follows:
Unregistered /
No plates affixed/ These three $150 plus 20 demerits/Old fine was $200
Driving while plates on hold/
Unlicensed vehicle/ This is $100 plus 15 demerits
Current license label not affixed This is $75 FINE (Unchanged)

Just for your info. I guess fore warned is fore armed.

Slightly off topic but had to chime in here in the states I am a first year rider on my 75 750 and I pay 240 insurance and like 36 for plates and registration (a year).
