My '77 CB750F -?manufacturing dates and color?
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:28:50 PM »
This is a curiosity to me. The original color for my bike is Sulphur Yellow. When looking up colors for my bike it never mentions Sulphur Yellow and only mentions Black and Red. Sulphur Yellow is a '76 SS color though. I found info on the production dates for the '77 CB750 SS and, if I remember correctly, it was the last few months of '76 and the first 6 or so months of '77. I understand that models for the new year come out months before the year has started, but I also know that sometimes manufacturers make changes from the beginning of production to the end. If my bike is a '76 F1 color, is there anything else about it that's more '76 F1 than '77 F2. Sorry if this seems to be a bit trivial, but I just like knowing these sorts of things.  :)

The F2 had a black engine, different rear master cylinder to the F1, dual front brakes, comstar wheels, different exhaust.  If you post a pic, I can see what you have.

Thanks Ace. It says 1977 on the sticker on the forks and the engine matches the title, but I was just wondering if there were differences in the F2 during it's run. Such as the one built during Nov. were diff. than the ones in Jan. due to some sort small change. Just curiosity. I'm assuming that changes weren't made during the production year, but I have heard of it happening before.

Could be it has been painted or the body parts swapped out.

Valves and guides wear out very fast in the "black motor". Honda replaced some on bikes still under warranty and changed to stronger(?) guides during the production year. I think this happened in '78. To my knowledge there were no mechanical/structural changes to the '77 line during the production year.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame
