A new part for late 750,s + Smooth oil filter Housings
« on: January 29, 2009, 10:59:32 AM »
I am thinking off making longbolts for 77/78 carbs, to enable quicker bowl removal on the bike. These would be made of 5/16 hex aluminum, with the same threads as stock (steel insert) on the bowl end to hold bowl on. The hex would protrude approx 3/8 inch past bowl to enable  easy wrench access.

Let me know if you are interested, I will work out a price.

Also thinking of spinning up some smooth oil filter housings out of stock ones, let me know if there is any interest. The major work on these is removing the fins..

I've seen these before and they look real cool.
Are there any concerns with a reduction in cooling?

To be honest, it is a bit of a step in the wrong direction, but there are advantages.

Easier to clean off

smoother, cleaner look

easier to pull off with headers on the bike.

There are lots of dammaged ones around, every motor I ever got that was out of frame with filter on  has damage.

I think a billet one with fins going around it would look pretty cool!

If you handle the mounting bolt like a plug you will not have to mess them up. Do not forget it is the O-ring that does all the work and just needs some compression. In all my years with the 750 never had a problem with it, and actually still have the original housing. Although I have changed to a screw-on filter (VFR) for a easier access.

Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

I have they Haynes, Clymer, and Honda shop manual... They don't really get into dealing with an oil filter bolt that's been welded to the housing when some numbnutz PO welded a nut onto the end of the bolt while the bolt was still securing the housing to the motor.

Dontchya love things that PO's do?

Sorry to hijack your thread 754  ;D  You have a good idea that my butchery is pissing all over.
