Carb leaf springs for 1977 CB 550K
« on: January 30, 2009, 05:49:46 PM »
Hey all,

I'm trying to rebuild my carbs, but I think I have some parts missing.  Should the main jets have leaf springs holding them in as well as the O rings??  I didn't have any when I took the bike apart.   Does anyone know where I can get a set of these for my bike?  The jets keep vibrating out.  In browsing the net, I can't find the springs ANYWHERE available to buy.  Any suggestions??

i am in the exact same boat right now with my 75 550k. yes, there are springs, and no they cannot be purchased on there own. i have spent hours on the net, and have had a friend at a motorcycle shop looking. i am going to find a set of carbs, either on e-bay or something like that, or at a salvage yard. they have been going for 25 bucks or less, plus shipping. my buddy found a guy who thought he might have some laying around. he said he'd let them go for about 40 bucks, plus shipping. yeah, right. so that's where i am at.
but, if anyone else has i ideas, i could use them also.
good luck.

Mach / Bogg,

I've got four well-used springs left over from a recent 1975 CB550 rebuild.  Now, they're not in the greatest shape, but they all have both tangs and should work until you can find better ones.

The springs are Keihin parts (as opposed to Honda) and I've never had luck finding brand new ones.

Send me a P.M. with an address and I'll drop them in the mail to whomever wants them.

part number 16061-323-004 if you can find them BUT the 77 should have screwed in jets!!

BUT the 77 should have screwed in jets!!

My main jets were screwed in and the slow jets were a press fit.

Here's a pic of my PD46A carbs from my 77 550

#1 is the Float Valve (underneath the tongue of the float set)
#2 is the Main Jet Holder and the Main Jet.  The Main Jet screws into the end of the holder, which screws into the carb
#3 is a pressed in jet.  You can grip this with pliers and pull it out with steady pressure to clean it.  Tap it back in when clean.
#4 is the air mixture screw

Hope this helps.

'77 and '78 550 carbs are different then the earlier 550s.  also, the Haynes and Clamers manuals don't make note of the difference.

have you looked here: http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/Honda.aspx

Did a search for your bike and they appear to have all the parts for your carbs you could ever need.

Except for the leaf springs which are not even listed on the fiche.

Kre-eper,

You may have a problem syncing them.  If I remember correctly, the 75's have sync. ports on the intake manifolds; the 77's have them on the carb. bodies.  You could install '75 manifolds to solve the problem, as they are otherwise the same.
